Hardik Goyal, DE Shaw Prep: Despite your best preparation, you may inevitably end up confused. And that is perfectly acceptable. It can be extremely daunting to not know something despite reading up everything you possibly can. At one point, I had gone through hundreds of pages of technical textbooks to learn about a specific industry related to the project, and yet I could not definitively predict a variable. That’s alright: don’t fear it.
Saakshi Malpani, YES Bank Prep: My approach was first to start reading about project deliverables, not just in YES Bank's context but from a mindset of how a full-time banker would understand what needs to be done. Industry analysis via various research reports/ insights, RBI website for the current financial position of banks, analysts call transcripts of different private and global banks, is an excellent source of understanding Indian and Global trends in the banking space. Given the background of my project, I even read about trade relations with certain countries, which helped me identify key business sectors and construct a geography-specific CRM. It helped me understand my project deliverables better and benchmark industry best practices to suggest feasible solutions.
Sandra Anil, Deloitte Prep: Over the few months leading to the internship, I contacted a few alums from our institute who had also interned with Deloitte in the past, to understand the nature of work and how best I could prepare myself. The internship kick-started with a jam-packed induction week. The induction week encompassed sessions on consulting skills such as Storyboarding and Research Methodologies. The sessions were conducted by various senior practitioners in Deloitte and in addition, each team was also assigned a practitioner as a mentor for the Case Study Simulation. This provided a stellar platform for us to interact with other practitioners across the firm.
