Back in the days when I was preparing for CAT, I used to read through a lot of articles to improve my reading comprehension. Articles of Former RBI Governor Dr. Raghuram Rajan are/were regular features in a number of publications. Fast forward a year and it was hard to believe Dr. Rajan standing 20 feet away from me answering a question of mine, on the role of credit rating agencies in growing NPAs in India. Four months into the course at IFMR GSB, one thing which I learned is this MBA never fails to excite me!
‘Beti baadi ho gayi hai, shaadi kab karwa rahe hai’, could be the most heard line by any Indian parent, when their daughters reach their 20s. The age is even less if you are from rural India. Women in particular, other than all the other societal expectations, need to bear this burden of getting married ‘on time’, thanks to the constant nagging of immediate family and relatives. What suffers in the process is their aspiration for higher studies and making a mark in the world for themselves!
The monotony of life is something every individual tackles on a daily basis. After a year of grueling preparations, cracking the entrance examinations, and another three months of nervous anticipation, we, the batch 2019-21, entered the Lavale hilltop campus with a heavy heart and a bucketful of questions. For many of us, it was the first time staying away from our hometown, while for others, it was another adventure. “Seeing is believing” – they said: Well said. Before joining, we had only heard of what to expect, but experiencing it first hand is a different ball game altogether.
