What is Abhyudaya? It was in my second group interview that I first heard of this term. One of my co-interviewees had mentioned it as one of the factors that differentiated SPJIMR from every other college in the country. Despite my (seemingly) extensive pre-interview research, I had no idea what it meant. So, I did the most natural thing – I nodded my head vigorously and hoped that the interviewers moved on to other topics (hint: they did not).
It has been quite some time since all of us have entered the field of management studies. The whole point of a management degree is to put you through a rigorous curriculum that forces you to expand your limits and indulge into hardcore management of time and task to perform. We do cope-up with the PG degree lifestyle over the time, but let’s face it, all of us face setbacks occasionally. These setbacks come unexpectedly, they introduce a slack in our otherwise smooth flow of work and then all of a sudden, the equilibrium snaps and everything starts falling apart. One second you are this wizard who manages to put everything to place with a flick of a wand, and the other second you are nothing more than a circus juggler trying to balance on a unicycle. On occasions like these, one needs to let go and start all over again, it is okay to take a step back to plunge forward, and there is a lot you can do to keep yourself in the race, still fighting.
Experiential learning is a vital component of management education. The first-hand experience gained, proves to be a better learning tool than the conventional textbooks and notes. Since the students of B-schools are all potential managers who would be handling day-to-day activities and complexities of a company, this method is particularly useful to them. The topics can also be better explained to the students, by using such relevant and live examples.

All the major b-schools in India have established exchange programs with universities abroad. A fair mix of global perspective is hence available in Indian schools as well. This also gives a chance for us desi students to get a flavour of MBA-ing abroad, without having to go through the rigmarole of GMAT and TOEFL and the works.
One of the best ways to get a stint of the global curriculum in management is the student exchange programme conducted by major campuses in the country. Every autumn is the season of student exchange programmes, the time of the year when select few from the campus complete one semester abroad, truly widening the range of their experiences. Vaishali Sabherwal, was one of those fortunate to have gained a global perspective into their courses. Vaishali went on an exchange programme to Neoma Business School in France. She is here to share her life and times while on the exchange programme.
1. Bodhi Tree: People know Bodhi, people do not know XLRI. Trust me. I was one of them! The legendary band, the beacon of hope, the light in our darkness! The band was created by members of the batch of 2003-05. The original name of the band was Bodhi Sapling, and was renamed to Bodhi Tree in 2005. The band has given the Indian youth gems like sab ka katega, GMD, XL ki kudiyaan which over the years have become cult classics. The band is what has encapsulated the true spirit of XL over the years. We XLers believe that "in God we trust, in Bodhi we must!". But the band is not gone. It is alive and growing! New members are inducted every year and carry on the famed legacy.
