My First Month At XLRI - Ushasi Bandyopadhyay, XLRI HRM' 25

Starting my B-school journey was daunting for me. I had never lived at a hostel, I had never been used to such a hectic schedule that I had heard of, I had never lived away from my home. I was scared and apprehensive when I reached XLRI Jamshedpur on 11th June. But as soon as I saw the campus, I fell in love with it. The greenery, the song of the birds and legacy of the oldest premiere B-school of India swayed me off my feet. The first week was filled with orientation sessions and I made a bunch of great friends within a very short time! Soon, like magic, hostel life started feeling amazing. The first 3-4 days were chill, until the seniors came in with their ‘professional development program’ set for us (will not be giving out the spoilers but trust me it will be one of the most memorable B-school experiences ever). For the next one week we stayed up till 5 AM in the morning rushing from one group exercise to another, making decks, recording video, and solving cases. The entire batch bonded over caffeine, sleep deprivation and pressure and soon we started loving the hustle. The first lesson that I learned in B-school was to fall in love with the hustle and that everything becomes easy with a support system around.

Most Important Time In A B-School

Most Important Time In A B-School

The academic year in a B-School usually starts from mid-June to July and the overload of information and instructions makes students anxious. This time leading into the summer intership interviews is the most important time in an MBA student's life. Failure to recognize one's priorities and the inability to streamline preparations may affect the outcome that one expects while securing admissions in their respective colleges. From my personal experience during two years in FMS Delhi, I saw many students breaking down during this stressful phase, and this is true for all top b-schools in this country simply because the scope of learning and improvement is way higher as compared to the time that is available at your hands. Therefore, it is essential to be motivated, prepare right and improve one's skills essential for securing dream summer internships. I have listed some major pointers that students fail to keep in mind during this initial journey of their MBA life.

It's Always Good To Have Plan-B!

It's Always Good To Have Plan-B!

It's always good to have Plan B. I know tonnes of folks out there may disagree with this ideology. But, this is it! This is the ultimate truth! Some plans are doomed to get fail, while others would do wonders for us. Make our Plan-A too aspirational that even if it doesn't work out, we may land at Plan-B & still be happy. Let me stress that aspirations should be realistic, but they can be far-fetched.
