Having worked as a civil engineer in various power plant project, I was assigned the task of modelling an entire power plant in 4D simulation environment. Being new to this project, I had no idea of initiating the task assigned. The first important step was to devise a strategy for yourself and define a clear set of goals to be executed. Then clearly setting action plans to achieve the set of goals. Strategy is the essence of human action—the bridge between an idea and its realization in the world.
The next step was to work with a set of people who you are not familiar with as there is a lot of integration going on to model a complex power plants and involves various stakeholders. The most important thing here was to not be limited by your comfort zone and let go of your ego. This will result in a lot of confrontations with others, will make you embarrassed and will occasionally make you feel dis-empowered. But in the end, it will bring the results you want. This is bound to happen when you are things when no else is willing to do.
The next challenging step was to adhere to the deadlines. It is imperative to prioritize the various tasks assigned and managing time as there will be a lot people and other activities you will be engulfed in. Also, there should be a clear communication channel between the manager, team lead and various other working engineers. The result should be along the expected lines.
Finally, I was able to complete the task given with the process stated above. There should also be a clear state of mind and clarity of thought in process to ultimately succeed in your passion, dream or ambition.
