Campus placements were about to begin and I decided to prepare for campus placements and after that study for CAT. Couldn't clear the aptitude round of the first four companies and the self-confidence shattered into pieces. CAT was a distant dream as getting placed was itself difficult. But finally, a company that had its initial round similar to CAT and two managerial interviews selected me.
August month had already started and I had only 3 months to prepare for one of the toughest exams. I started giving mocks where I scored only 75 percentile in the first one. But gradually in the month of November, I was able to achieve 98/99+ percentile.
January 5, results were out and I scored 99.82 percentile. I was very very happy. Happiness increased when IIM Calcutta called. I thought now I would surely land up in A, B or C. But the next five days were the worst. No calls from A, B, L, I. Kozhikode had not released yet, but that was a shocker for me. I had never checked for the criteria of any of the college. IIM Kozhikode called after a few days.
I had only two calls from the 6 older IIMs. Chances of getting in were very few, and my confidence level was very low. All the interviews were done. IIM Calcutta shortlist was out and I was rejected. IIM Kozhikode released their shortlist and I was waitlisted 322. This was another setback. The previous shortlist had moved just 150, and I was shortlisted 322. I lost all hopes and thought of joining the company and trying for CAT again. I accepted the offer from the company, started searching for accommodation. The waitlist was moving slowly but steadied at 96. But, IIM Kozhikode declared EWS quota and the list moved quickly to 63 and then to 36. It was 27 on 10th June, 2 on 13th June and converted on 17th June. We were called for registration in the college on 21st June.
I think it happened all for me and that's the best part of it. Currently studying in the first year, happily enjoying the MBA life!!!!
