The weather was quite sunny on one fine morning in the campus. A class was scheduled for 9 AM of the subject “Sustainability and Business”. I was in the class and the Professor was talking about sustainability.
The weird thing was, I was constantly looking at the window and the scenic beauty of Shillong. The clouds in the sky were looking beautiful and I felt like I can touch those clouds with my hands. Moreover, I was thinking that how exquisite nature is? But because of us (Humans), it is losing its beauty. Because of my inattentiveness, prof pointed me out and asked me what am I doing?
First, I thought I am out of the class but then he said just tell me what were you doing? I explained to him everything that how humans are ruining the beauty of nature and they even don’t know the consequences. Then he told me to sit down and gave an activity to the whole class that you must point out the 5 main issues because of that environment is facing problem nowadays. The whole class wrote 5 points and after that, the main points that were taken out by the Prof were: 1. Lack of Education 2. Pollution 3. Climate Change 4. Deforestation 5. Plastic usages. Then he asked the students why do you think these issues are affecting the environment and what could be done in order to save the environment?
After listening to everyone’s views, he himself explained why we need to get rid of these problems and what could be the future consequences of these issues? Moreover, he forced on the statement that not one or two people is harming the environment. It’s all of us and we must take some steps to make it healthy. Although it was a normal discussion, but it made me realize that now it is too much if we don’t do something, the results will be hazardous afterwards.
Because of global warming the global temperature has risen by 2 degrees Celsius. Some solutions by the prof made me think that if we as a community can make our mother earth beautiful again. Also, its not the end we still have some time to rejuvenate the environment. The beautiful thing about my college is that it has a foundation and the core courses on Sustainability, which is needed to become a good manager, indeed.

As my interest goes to the finance domain, I can learn more about the finance from my college and use that knowledge to get best out of me. ABC’s strong presence across the life insurance, asset management, private equity, corporate lending etc fascinates me to join this company. Moreover, Aditya Birla Capital will provide me the opportunity to showcase my skills to the greater level. IIM Shillong will help me to develop Managerial skills, which I will utilize in my work.
