Shillong as its named as the ‘Scotland of the East’ is a unique place in all respects. Right from the culture, people’s belief and economy; everything will surprise you in its own way and you come here for higher studies: such combination is hard to find and will definitely give you a perspective towards life, career and society. Natural beauty is not only attractive but also reminds people that nothing is predictable and no success can be achieved in isolation. Weather changes so quick, sky appears to be up with a different colour every day and greenery makes you feel rejuvenated. All this may sound fancy to some, but that’s what I have experiences since the day I have entered my ‘campus in clouds’ IIM Shillong. Coming from a city like Delhi where pace of life is so fast and time to cherish the crispness of nature doesn’t even appear on any agenda list of the people living there. Delhi despite being a capital is growing towards more mechanization and development of technology due to which sometimes the society forgets to reciprocate to the nature.
IIM Shillong is one of the well-known and reputed colleges for management. Everyone is aware of the visit to campus by Dr A.P.J. Abdul Kalam where he was invited to give and set directions for the students studying here and how can they contribute to a visionary future which will not only benefit India but will also bring prosperity to the whole nation. It would be peculiar to know that our college not only respect the vision seen by Dr Kalam, but also has taken various steps in this regard. As we truly believe in the concept of sustainability and understand the importance of reciprocating back to the society, multiple initiatives like Nurturing minds, research of growth prospects for the local region in business and otherwise.
My journey so far has been exhilarating and stimulating. Understanding the intricacies of a MBA program, the rigour and daily learning is altogether an enthralling experience. And when you get to network with different people and a platform to interact with corporate icons not only builds confidence but also brings clarity of thought for your career decision. Weekend treks to nearby tourists place helps in relieving yourself from the week long stress. Corporate competitions, live projects and research initiative taken by the students keeps them updated and helps in boosting interaction with the external world. It is a student driven campus and any problem or issue has to be resolved within students. Overall my experience has been exciting and wish the same for the next two years.
