I know a lot of people is going to talk about how sustainable IIM Shillong campus is and about how greenery and nature is mixed in the culture of students at IIM Shillong. So, I have decided to bring a completely different picture of our campus, which highlights how closely knitted the students are, here at IIM S.
Every MBA campus wants their students to be closely associated with each other so that they can support each other in difficult times but when it comes to IIM S, the degree of bonding which we develop in just a few months of our college is truly exceptional. The student culture of any college defines and shapes the students and at IIM S, every outgoing batch transfers their culture to the new incoming batch which is just phenomenal.
Some instances which proves how closely associated we are – We celebrate birthdays of each and every student together with all 360 students in our common area, quadrangle. Every night as the clock strikes 12, the whole of the batch gathers together to celebrate someone’s day! It’s an amazing moment. Whole of two batches singing birthday wishes to the one standing in between is just a moment to cherish! I don’t know about others but for me, it was an amazing experience. It all starts with the best friend of the birthday boy/girl sending email invites to the two batches hours before midnight.
Talking about the mails, we do have a standard format of birthday mails which highlights the birthday boy/gal’s special achievement in their tenure at college. It is full of humour, wit and creativity. At midnight, everyone gathers, and it becomes a wonderful place to be in. With all the assignment deadlines approaching and all the pending pre-reads and case studies to complete, these 30 mints of enjoyment just refuel everyone, and we are more refreshed and rejuvenated than what a sip of coffee or a masala Maggi at night canteen can ever do. Most importantly, it’s not just about taking a break from our hectic routine study, it is about becoming a part of someone’s best day to celebrate. It’s not just about wishing happy birthday but about celebrating the togetherness we enjoy as a complete batch.
Celebrating birthdays together is not something new to hostel life at IIM’s but the way and energy with which we, the students of IIM S celebrate it further binds us and brings out the true colours of IIM S as a family.

Talking about the binding and family feelings which I get to see at IIM S, I am quite sure that all of the ABG companies have a special bonding with their employees but still being an Electronics and Communication Engineer, I would prefer working for Idea Cellular. I will not just be a part of a big ABG family but will also be able to put my theoretical knowledge at use.
