Part A

Aditya Birla Group has interests in viscose staple fibre, metals, cement, viscose filament yarn, branded apparel, chemicals, fertilisers, insulators, financial services, telecom, BPO and IT services. The business that interests me the most is their branded apparel business. The group sells in-house and other branded apparel and it's firm Aditya Birla Fashion & Retail Ltd (ABFRL) sells in-house brands such as Louis Phillipe, Allen Solly, Van Heusen, Peter England and People via their individual brand stores and through other multi brand outlets. I’ve been a regular customer of the Allen Solly shirts for a long period of time. Whenever I have to buy a new shirt, Allen Solly is one of the most preferred brand. Stylish, comfy and value for money are the three things I look for in a brand and all these things I find in an Allen Solly shirt. Also it is a brand that is easily available in every city and you find Allen Solly shirts in many retail outlets and there is an Allen Solly store in every major supermarket and mega malls. Another brand that I prefer is Van Heusen. I never got to wear a Van Heusen product up until last year when I bought their cotton shorts. Fine quality, soft fibre and durable, those were one of the most comfortable shorts I wore. Usually I don’t switch brands that easily but those shorts have made me switch from other brands to Van Heusen. So, Allen Solly and Van Heusen are two brands in the apparel business whose presence in my life is massive.

Part B

Every person in their life faces challenges and hardships but those who don’t give up and face these situations and overcome them are the real champions. One such situation arrived during my 12th board exams. In February, my mother was diagnosed with spinal tuberculosis and was recommended complete bedrest. My school practical exams were going on during that time and I had to manage both practical exams and taking care of her. Initially there were some signs of improvement but then her health deteriorated, and she had to undergo a spinal surgery. There wasn’t any spinal hospital in my city so he had to get her admitted in a good neuro and spinal hospital in Mohali where the top surgeons of north India could operate her. There were still two weeks to my boards, and I had to prepare well for them because this result would decide my future. My mother was in the hospital for over ten days and everyday I had to go back and forth from my city, Yamunanagar to Mohali which is over 100 kilometres. I stayed and studied beside her bed during the day and left in the evening. It was not easy for me to travel 200 kilometres every day and then study especially the practical subjects like Accountancy and Mathematics that require your full focus and concentration. Despite that I was prepared well for my exams and gave my 100% in every board exam. I scored above 93% and was one of the school toppers. That was one moment of my life where I overcame the challenges in my life and achieved my ambition.
