A B-School journey against all odds. I believe everyone has their own B-School story and everyone comes out fighting against all the Odds stacked against them. It's just dependent upon a variable which gets to decide about when and where you will be able to break those walls. And that single variable is TIME. It can happen in just a day or it can happen after years of hard work. But eventually, you get to break all the Odds. Here is one such story of going past those Odds and calling it an Even.
So, this girl, a batchmate of mine here at IIM Udaipur, comes from the god’s own country, who has been proving every passing day about how much god has been on her side. But this has not always been the case. She is a commerce graduate by profession and an extremely talented person. She is a scholar, but also an active participant in extra-curricular activities.
She comes from an uber-conservative family wherein it’s a common notion of girls getting married along the lines of 18-19 years of age. But this girl had something else in her mind and did not wish to end up along the same lines. In fact, she wanted to set an example for the culture that she comes from about how much the potential an individual carries and what avenues lie ahead of you. It's just that you need to walk that path. Where in all her friends and cousins were taking the biggest decision of their lives by getting married, she took the biggest decision of her life of joining a B-School and explore the world outside.
In a conventional Indian surrounding, where you find the influence of the society over one’s family, she is blessed with a wonderful family. She had them standing behind her at this decision of hers. But there was one another person standing right beside her whose value we often tend to forget. And it was her teachers, her mentors who were there to convince her parents to give her the time and prepare for CAT.
Ever since the day she has stepped into this campus, she has always been praising her parents for all their support. And believe me, when I say that she praises her parents, she really does. And it’s not a common thing to be seen when generally it’s the parents who are praise us, not the other way around. It was with their support that she has climbed up the ladder, and she is not done yet. She still has a long way to go. But there’s one thing that has changed. She most certainly has motivated at least a girl’s mind to not get married and take upon the onus of their lives.
This may not have been the most breakthrough story in the world, but when you have experienced and seen the world from a different perspective, she truly is a SUPERHERO in that world.
