Letting the fear find me
“Study while you Study, and Play while you Play. This is the way, to Cheerful and Gay.” My Nana had to usually bestow rather foster me with this periodic lesson. He well knew my passion for outdoor games. I would see someone playing on the field on a typical north summer afternoon, and jump right into it. Alas! in case there was none out there, I would take it on me to get rid of the cows on the field. I guess this is how I overcame my fear of big animals as well. So yes, every challenge that I have till now overcome, it’s because I let the fear find me.
I let my school time habit of using the most complex words in essays, seep in. I knew it “showed me in bad light”. A side note I got from one of my most beloved teacher for an essay on Marxism. From getting lines reviewed by my Dad to getting paras reviewed, I started this love affair of writing. Winning inter-state essay writing competitions and getting periodic “letter of the week” award from The Indian Express, I know I had overcome the fear that I once let in. For everything, there is a root cause. Finding it, is the herculean task. Having the ability to say “It’s Ok” is the sole achievement.
Knowing that joining Hindalco was the wisest decision I ever made, it was this feeling of “Hiraeth” that challenged me throughout the forty-hour long train journey from my border area town in Ferozepur to the lush green and fresh valleys of Renukoot. I breathed in the homesick vibes, let the peace prevail and marched on to make the most efficient contributions to the organization.
Thence followed achievements, in the form of recognitions. Recognitions from the departments I was part of at BITS. Recognitions in the form of appraisals, I got from our MD & HOD and in the form of lifelong advices, from my peers at Hindalco. From these challenges and following achievements, emerged a more mature and humble being who now knows that “work is worship and worship is ambition”.
