To make a difference in people's lives is what I as an HR professional dream to achieve. In my humble opinion the success of every organisation is built on the utilization of the human capital at its disposal. However, exceptional organisations make a concerted effort to "take care" of their employees while achieving everything they had sought out to.
An example of this was during my experience at a pharmaceutical manufacturing plant. Dealing with medical drug manufacturing can be a dangerous process especially for the plant personnel who are directly involved in it. The focus of our organisation was to improve people's lives all around the world by providing life-saving medical drugs.
During this process, we not only managed to achieve everything we sought out for, but also "took care" of the human capital of the organisation which was regularly involved in the manufacturing of these drugs. From Employee Assistance Programmes to extended paid wellness leaves, our organisation provided the plant personnel every bit of support and recognition they deserved in order to build that employer brand.
By laying down the foundations for the EAP, I felt the most satisfying feeling of actually making a difference in both a person's life and the organisation's. To me, that is drive, that is the ultimate ambition. The experience gained through this venture propelled me to choose HR as my major as it would provide me direct and broader opportunities to make a greater impact in the organisation by enhancing and utilizing the human capital potential.
