Congratulations to all having made it so far. Enjoy. Revel in your moment of glory. It is an achievement. You have outdone 2 lakh candidates and have reached where you are.  And you should be happy. But it’s the end of that journey. And the start of a new one. So here are some rude awakenings that you will face. Here are a few things that you should keep in mind.

1. People are ultra-competitive

And it's only right that they are. There is a hefty loan on most shoulders. And this job decides quite a bit of their future. People will be ruthless.

My request: Don’t be like that. A person will remember you for the help, honesty and self-sacrifice. That matters more than the great placement that you will bag. And besides, great and best are not too different in the larger scheme of things.

2. You are going to realise that you aren’t that good. Only as good as the person beside you.

So you were a high flier. You are going to lose to others a lot. In a lot of ways. There will be the best around you.

Find yourself and dedicate yourself to your strength, everyone can’t be good at everything. And hear me out --- this may be a shocker ! But learn to work with others. A culmination of strengths works wonders

3. You are going to get jealous of others and they, of you

Don’t. Period. You are on your own journey. Others on their own.

4.      People are in various stages of maturity and their life.

You’ll find all kinds. Cynics, back-biters, golden-hearted, innocent and just plain mean. It’s the same as it was earlier. The only difference would be that people develop quite quicker here. They recognise shortcomings quickly.

Be kind anyway. They all are fighting their own battles

5.      Politics.

You can sing all the praises of meritocracy you like. But politics is real. You will know the meaning of knowing the right people and how to get along with them, those who resist tend to get swept away. And a good political mindset will help you. Politics the word is negative. But it is an essential part of all organisations. Accept it?

6.  Development is real. They are going to outgrow you.

Your CV should get fatter every month. Don’t get complacent. Or someone else’s CV is getting fatter.
