A journey from vainness to humility

Five years at BITS Pilani and the very next two at the coveted Aditya Birla Group. This affair started in the year 2011 at Pilani, the famed village of one of the most respected families in India - Birlas. When I found myself at the gates of the prestigious Pilani campus. On my right, stood a proud Father, knowing his son will make things great here. Such was the tenacity of the man that he said this very line as his parting note “Have the focus of Arjuna in your eyes”. Enlivening that well received benevolence, I learnt here. I learnt the power of failures while competing in a tough nut environment and when failing to start a self sustained "Green Council" as a core committee member of the Student Union at Pilani.

At ABG, I honed my communication skills while interacting with our world renowned customers at Hindalco downstream and with around fifty Supervisors and technical staff on the shopfloor, whilst a breakdown occurs, ensuring On Time in Full. Out of all the things I learnt from ABG, humility is the lesson I cherish the most. From vainness to humility, that is how I would summarize this relationship with the group.

Apart from the "Star Young Manufacturing Professional" award from the respected Managing Director Hindalco, the real benefits of these lessons have just now started pouring in. These lessons have for sure helped me at my new home here at Xavier’s Institute of Management, Bhubaneswar. With lessons come responsibilities. I understand that my individual representation is significant of the holistic representation of this legacy. A legacy of the most prestigious temples of learning in India, mooted out by grounded and humble people. The most peculiar thing about these ever so young campuses is the peace they somehow manage to afford. Which is also the greatest management skill I hope to take-away from my newest home at XIMB.
