Part A
Why Aditya Birla Group is big in my life
Aditya Birla Group is the third-largest Indian private sector conglomerate with a revenue of US$44.3 billion behind Tata Group with revenue of just over US$100 billion and RIL with revenue of US$74 billion, has surely not only made it large in the entire world but has touched the lives of many including me.
Starting with my day-to-day activities, the first thing which comes to my mind is the Vodafone Idea cellular network which helps me to connect with my family and friends, no matter however far they may be from me, due to the excellent network provided by the Vodafone super net 4G.
Next, being in one of the most elite B Schools of the country, formals are an important part of dressing. Apparel brands like Peter England, Louis Philippe, Allen Solly, and Van Heusen operating under the Aditya Birla Group are my go-to choices when it comes to formals. Also, Aditya Birla Group is the world's largest producer of Viscose staple fiber (VSF) which is a man-made, biodegradable fiber with characteristics akin to cotton. As an extremely versatile and easily blendable fiber, VSF is widely used in apparels, home textiles, and dress materials.
The next sector which comes to my mind is the Group’s cement business. Ultratech Cement, India’s largest cement company is a company operating under the Group. Cement is a major constituent in the building process of anything, like buildings, railroads, houses, etc. Therefore it’s evident how far and deep the group has reached in our lives. In conclusion, I would like to say that due to the Aditya Birla Group, our life has become simpler.
Part B
How I overcame challenges to achieve my ambitions in life so far
Challenges and problems are important parts of life that give you experiences, make you learn and help you to become wiser and stronger. Problems make us grow and shape us. We will all have problems – small or large – the difference is how we deal with the problems and challenges that occur.
Recently, the challenge that I faced was to land admission in a reputed business school in our country. It was really a tough task and I could not land one in my first attempt. Then I had to make one of the toughest decisions of my life, i.e. to enroll myself in a not-so-good B-school or to take a year’s drop and prepare again. I chose the latter. Obviously, that decision did not go well with some of my relatives and friends. I had to ignore all of them and focus on my goal. This would not be possible without the constant support that I got from my parents and close friends. I now realize that they believed in me and maybe more importantly, knew my potential. Hence, their motivation and encouragement enabled me to concentrate only on my studies and helped me accomplish my goal. Since I self-prepared, I decided to compare my current performances with my past. In essence, I was constantly fighting with myself. All this effort finally enabled me to land an MBA seat in IIM Sirmaur. I understood that one must not run away from the problems and challenges in life. We shouldn’t ignore them or try to hide from them. Face them. Deal with them. The greatest growth in life and the most important lessons you will learn will come when you face and deal with a serious challenge or problem.
