While placements are a big consideration while choosing a b-school to join, another important consideration is the return on investment. Naturally, this gives rise to a comparisons between government and private MBA colleges, with greater scope for lower program fees at the former. Today, however, there are only a handful of top-ranked public business schools that offer a relatively cheap MBA. Institutes of eminence like the IIMs charge anywhere between INR 13 lakhs to INR 24 lakhs for their flagship programs. To compare, this is at par or more expensive than pursuing an MBA from private institutes like XLRI Jamshedpur and MDI Gurgaon. Even so, government institutes like FMS Delhi, JBIMS, and TISS provide reasonably good ROI. Institutes like NITIE and SJMSoM are much cheaper than most top-ranked private institutes and offer at-part/better placements. So, where do these institutes find themselves in the list of India's top public and private MBA colleges? Find out here!

IIM Ahmedabad Is India's Top Government MBA College, SJMSoM IIT Bombay Also Amongst the Top 10

IIMs Ahmedabad, Bangalore and Calcutta have, one again, emerged as India's most preferred government MBA colleges. These institutes, granted full autonomy in 2017, have been regularly featured amongst the world's top management institutes and have sustained a legacy of outstanding management education since the early 1960s. More interestingly, IIT Bombay's SJMSoM finds itself amongst India's top-10 public MBA colleges. This shouldn't come as a surprise, given the tremendous placement figures and year-on-year growth in recruitment numbers at the institute. For instance, SJMSoM's median salary for the graduating batch of 2022 stood at INR 25.8 lakhs. To compare, IIM Kozhikode's median salary in the same year stood at INR 26.50 lakhs. Like FMS Delhi, JBIMS has been a regular feature amongst India's top public MBA institutes, preferred especially for its return on investment and excellent placements. Also amongst consideration in the top-15 are IIM Shillong and IIM Udaipur - established in the 21st century yet making giant strides towards equaling the stature of IIMs ABC. In fact, IIM Udaipur has consistently stood out amongst its counterparts in terms of recruitment figures! Also amongst the top-15 are TISS and NITIE, offering specialized programs and delivering excellent placements for its MBA (or equivalent program) students. With IIT Delhi's Department of Management Studies (DMS) making it into the top-15 as well, two IITs find themselves amongst India's top-15 business schools. Towards the bottom-end of this list are the third generation IIMs—relatively new institutes yet to deliver placements expected from the 'IIM' brand.

XLRI Jamshedpur Is India's Top Private MBA College, IMT Ghaziabad and MICA Also Amongst the Top 10

For applicants keen on a two-year Indian MBA, XLRI Jamshedpur is the top choice in terms of private MBA colleges. The institute's HRM program is comparable to some of the best HR programs in the world, and its BM program is now also considered to be in the ranks of the holy trinity of IIMs and FMS Delhi. More interestingly, IMT Ghaziabad, MICA and IMI Delhi—three business schools known for exceptional marketing management education but only satisfactory placements—find themselves amongst the best private MBA colleges in India. Amongst the top five is SIBM Pune, which recently saw the highest salary touch INR 46 lakhs and the average salary shooting up by 18% over the previous year.   NMIMS Mumbai, ranked 6th here, saw even better growth in placement figures, recording a 25% increase in the average salary and an eyewatering top salary of INR 58 lakhs! Funnily enough, two NMIMS institutes—NMIMS Hyderabad and Bengaluru—finds themselves at the lower end of these rankings. Notably, BITSoM, which began operations only a couple of years ago, is well within the top-15 private MBA colleges of India. The b-school's branding has been effective in conveying the BITS Pilani pedigree of education imparted. Another institute that shows promise of rising up in these rankings is Masters' Union—a one-of-a-kind institute that brings in real-world experts with significant experience across business verticals to teach business management concepts.
