A B-school has many activities and experiences on the professional front apart from the academics, placements and case competitions. And like in all of these fields, competition is intense everywhere. It is no different when it comes to the year-end awards given by the institute. Apart from the awards given for brilliant academic performance, there are a few given for extracurricular achievements and leadership abilities. A rigorous process is followed, which includes nominations from the student community, followed by them voting for the selected nominations. The winning students are then felicitated by the institute during convocation.

It was the year 2013, the year when realizations dawned and I changed. The old story of how an accidental engineer found himself/herself/themselves. I had received an F grade in 2 subjects in one semester. It was not only a shock, but the worst thing about failing was I didn’t know how to cope with it. I had been a topper throughout my academic life until that day. With 9.6 CGPA in 10th, 91.6% in 12th (CBSE, both), I didn’t know what to do with failure but even though I felt helpless, there came a point when I felt nothing, as if the entire passion for marks, for academics, that I had harboured since I was a little kid reciting poems and stories perfectly to teachers, to parents, and to strangers had suddenly collapsed, and I strangely, felt relieved.

Unpredictability can be another name of life. With so many ups and downs, each experience helps us to grow and teaches the important lessons of life. But there are some touching incidents that alter the very core of our faith and beliefs. These lines depict the story of one of my batch mates at IIM Udaipur. This is the story of a girl whose positive attitude towards life and strong-headedness of not giving up moving mountains. Not only she fought against the worst demon of her life but also against all odds, cleared one of the toughest management exams of India and secured a seat in one of India’s best B-school – the Indian Institute of Management, Udaipur.
