Verbal Ability section is nothing short of a Gordian knot, more so if you’re an engineer. The kinematics, mathematics, and dynamics that you study in your undergrad leave you with very less knack for reading genres like psychology, economics, sociology, politics or even fiction. Well, take a sigh of relief! You need not be a Milton or a Shakespeare or even a voracious reader to ace the Verbal Ability section. Yes, you read it right, and that’s because VA is not equal to vocabulary or literature. It’s about your ability to comprehend while you read. It’s about filtering important information from a plethora of noise.
‘Do… or do not. There is no try.’ These are Yoda’s words of wisdom ingrained in the brain of every MBA aspirant. And I was no exception! But Yoda smacked me across the face with failure time and again. For me, the 3-year journey to XLRI was more an experience than an achievement.
I write today about a very interesting experience I have had the pleasure of living a few months ago. It led to moments of surprise, joy, excitement as well as confusion and frustration.
Getting into a b-school is all about fighting against all odds. But for some people, it isn't always a level playing field. Some people have to strive through more than the CAT preparation and interview calls. They have to keep going and chasing their dream with even more determination. And if they can do it, you can too.
There are 100s of videos on how to stay motivated for studies on the Internet. There are people who would keep on watching those videos, one speaker after other. Similarly, there are multiple self-help books for cat and even Quora isn’t aloof with this trend. I would ask you one question if it really worked, why would a person look for multiple such videos or books or Quora answers?
