The knowledge and learning B-schoolers acquire from competitions can not only spark innovation but also give tremendous value to their CV. The prize money is good enough to cover a part of your MBA studies and it’s another kick to get PPIs/PPOs before you finish your degree. Apart from that, participants get full bragging rights and become the next big thing walking on the campus. Hence, B-School competitions are invaluable! Which is why we’ve compiled a list of competitions to help you navigate through the pressure of preparation and presentation.

SPIKERZZ2k19 - "The Volley Ball Tournament....!" - IFMR GSB At Krea University

Quite recently, a volleyball tournament was held by B-sportive - the sports committee of IFMR GSB at Krea University - on the 28th and 29th of August. I was a part of the team named 'Desert Roses' that by the end of the day on the 30th of August, ended up winning the tournament. Ironically, when the tournament started and before, we as a team had never played together. We would keep telling each other all through the game, "Guys, keep it simple and easy", despite my teammate's attempt to land a smash multiple times (one of which actually did pan out) - also he will kill me when he reads this. Maybe it was the motto that got us through till the finals.

Game Players To Game Changers

Game Players To Game Changers

We often find ourselves fondly recollecting disjointed and fragmented memories of our childhood. We rerun anecdotes and life lessons, from what seems to be an eternity ago, for our acquaintances to hear. We rewind time through pictures and videos and cry, laugh, and get thoroughly absorbed by nostalgia. The memories closest to our hearts don’t include classroom lectures or the grades we had scored, but the times we had bunked school to play in the game room. Hours of strategizing over which chessman to move to ensure a definite “checkmate” against the best friend who herself was engrossed in making devious plans, were some of the best times I had spent in school. Before we could understand the rules of chess, all of us tried our luck in escaping long snakes and finding longer ladders. Who can forget playing ludo with cousins in every family gathering? We had all considered becoming businessmen/women when we won Monopoly for the first time. All these memories formed the better part of our childhoods and we certainly felt a pang of sadness when we realized we would not find time to waste in play once we decided to join a management institute.

When Was The Last Time You Did Something For The First Time?

When Was The Last Time You Did Something For The First Time?

We all are well acquainted with the word “Comfort Zone”, but how often do we come out of this zone? As students of a B-School, our answer would be - daily. From day one at XUB, we are constantly running out and around this zone. Thus, doing things which we thought we would never do. This started with us well-groomed in business suits standing outside the building on a hot and humid day. This weather is a trademark of Bhubaneswar. The first thing, we thought on that day was, “We have never ever done this before”, and this marked the beginning of many such days to come. In classrooms, we have done our best to solve case studies in a single day which would have had taken months to be solved otherwise and that was followed by back-to-back on the spot presentations making us sweat even in the air-conditioning. But, this isn’t the whole picture, it’s just one part of it.

KPL - The Annual Flagship Sporting Event At IIM Kashipur

It was 6 PM in the evening. I was headed to the mess. Happy with the fact that samosas would be served I hurried a little to avoid the long queue. Queues can get really long when good food is served and samosas are one of the hot items at IIM Kashipur. Adding to it we had our end terms starting from the day after tomorrow. During the period of anxiety such as the ones like examinations, good food at mess can really soothe your nerves. The twenty minutes with good food can make you well prepared for the sleepless night that is likely going to follow. But to my surprise, not many people were there. Not that I cared as long as I could get my hand on a plate of hot crispy samosas. I grabbed my plate and found myself a table. While I was eating I overheard a couple of seniors discussing some auction. Intrigued by the conversation I went up to them to have a conversation. Only then I realized it was the auction of the players for the Kashipur Premier League (KPL) that was happening then. It was one of those moments when you curse yourself really bad for being oblivious to your surroundings. KPL Players auction, one of the most anticipated events in the calendar year here at IIM Kashipur, was happening in the academic block and I was there loitering around the mess. I hurried towards the academic block to witness the action-filled event for which every student was waiting for.
