The pressure to turn stories into likes, to know which time of the day will fetch maximum page views raises one very important question- Do likes, comments and views even signify that people care about a story or issue? I believe in most cases the answer is No.
The Indian IT industry has long counted The USA as one of its biggest markets for IT related services. Several models have evolved in the IT industry to cater to the US market and among it is the Onsite-Offshore model of service delivery. This is a highly effective model for delivering IT services at a lower cost that leverages low cost resources at locations outside USA to execute a major part of the work combined with a few client-facing resources in the US.
We try to understand the business environment in villages and we get a brief idea due to topics such as Marketing to Bottom of Pyramid. Many marketers are identifying villages as the next place for FMCGs to be. In class, it made me cringe when city folks made blanket statements such as “women in villages do not go and shop, so no need to target them”. Or “Villagers are only concerned about food and electronic devices are a luxury to them” So, I decided to interview a mobile shop owner in my village Munavalli – a dusty, desolate place –in the state of Karnataka. It offered mobile phones and accessories for sale as well as repair, which was outsourced to third party in big cities. It also sold SIM cards. It had a photocopy machine which is used for in-house work as well as compliment the sale of SIM cards, since buyers would need photocopies to buy them. Services include top-ups, downloading songs, videos etc. Furthermore, they have license as Patanjali distributors and have stocked few FMCG products of theirs.

On November 21st, IIM Indore proudly hosted the HULT prize @ campus, the world’s largest student competition for social entrepreneurship. Called the "Nobel Prize for students" by media outlets world-wide, the Hult Prize is offered in partnership with former US President Bill Clinton and the Clinton Global Initiative. President Bill Clinton selects the challenge topic every year and announces the winner each September. The issue addressed this year is: Reawakening Human Potential: The Refugee Opportunity.
CAT’16 is just around the corner and we are sure that all of you are gearing up for the battle that lies ahead. What is the most important thing before giving a competitive exam like CAT? Is it preparation? Is it the knowledge that you possess? Is it the god-given gifts (to love mathematics)? No, it is none of the above mentioned things, but it is the confidence and self-belief that you take into CAT. While the other things play a vital role, they fall a bit short when you don’t have the self-belief that you will crack CAT.
“Most often there is no next time, no time-outs and no second chances. Most often it’s now or never!” once said, Alan Bennett. No matter how veracious and unquestionable this quote may seem but still don’t make the mistake of accepting it without a pinch of salt. Not at least in the case of an event like CAT. Yes, I might be sounding contrary to what you would have heard from a plethora of advisers out there but never make those 3 hours the typical “do or die” stuff or you’ll invite a hell lot of mental stress while solving the paper. Don’t encumber yourself with this thought and be relaxed thinking that there’s always a second chance. This is a prerequisite for all the other tips that follow in this write-up to come to fruition.
