Entrepreneurship is the kindled spirit of innovating and exploring with unmatched perseverance, passion and zeal. And at IIM Raipur, you find many a kindred spirit. With the backing of the Consulting and Entrepreneurship Club, the Entrepreneurship Culture at IIM Raipur has blossomed over the years. A major focus area of the club is to stimulate the spirit of entrepreneurship amongst the students by providing a platform for interaction with luminaries in this area and also resources to help them pursue their goal. One huge step in this regard is the headway into the incubation center. This would help in further promoting students as well as the local community to fearlessly jump into their pool of ideas and surface with the pearl amongst the ideas. The support provided by the incubation centre would enable them to take risk - which is a trademark of every successful entrepreneur.
It was in 2012 that I graduated from NIT Warangal, one of the best engineering colleges in India. When I was placed at Oracle, a company that offered me a fat pay check, I thought I had achieved pretty much that I wanted. I had it all: a bachelor’s degree from an institute that engineering aspirants dream for, a job that most engineering graduates would envy. Working with Oracle for almost 19 months, I had this dilemma: should I go for an MBA or should I continue with my handsomely paying job. While a Masters degree would help me rocket my career, my job would continue to give me a soothing lifestyle in Bangalore.
This season we bring you the second part of our series “MYRAcles”. In this part we talk to the young talent at MYRA School of Business, Mysore and share some interesting experiences that they had at the school. This time we meet Vikram Singh Thakur, a Mechanical Engineering graduate and a second year PGDM student at MYRA. Vikram speaks about how,the time that he spent at the school, the immersion learning pedagogy and the exchange semesters helped him evolve as a professional.
It was early 2014. CAT results were out and I had managed a meagre 90%ile which obviously would not have allowed me to enter the top notch B-schools. I didn’t write IIFT that year because it had my biggest nemesis in the form of GK. I knew I couldn’t clear it and thus it occurred that IIFT was beyond my reach. But as they say, a small advice can change your life, it actually happened with me. Mission MBA 2015 was on.
