The past editions of the InsideIIM Recruitment Survey have always given a notion that the halcyon days for the investment banks are over. This year’s survey, however, serves as an inflection point for the very same connotation because although, the BFSI industry has not received the top billing from the respondents, one can see a major improvement in its overall ranking. It primarily owes its success to the rather sanguine outlook ascribed to it by two categories, viz. MBA aspirants & 1st year students and post-MBA professionals. The relative scarcity of on-campus finance roles may be reasoned as the prime driver for the lower ratings received by the BFSI sector from the Class of 2016, wherein no bank apart from Morgan Stanley features among even the top 10 firms.

It’s time to proceed to the more ‘sombre’ part of the survey which intends to profess a gritty take on a host of issues that hold paramount importance with regard to MBA students, employers as well as employees. Given that the questions in this segment pertain to the intricacies of career choices, only the current crop of second year MBA students and the post-MBA professionals have been allowed to answer them in order to conserve data quality. The moment of truth is finally upon us. The InsideIIM Recruitment Survey 2015, which was carried over the month of August, garnered 980 consistent responses which form the basis of several important information synopses which shall be shared in the weeks to come. Into its fourth edition, the survey has gradually become a paradigm among B-school students for all career-related issues. Several recruiters have even admittedly leveraged upon the survey results/insights to redefine their compensation structures. In fact, we shall be disseminating the results of the survey to a hundred leading recruiters in India. By virtue of this exercise, we hope to not only engender a fundamental change in the mindsets of B-school students, aspirants & alumni regarding their career choices, but also abet in their convalescence from the deadly “herd” syndrome.
