Is It Worth Signing Up For An MBA?

The past 20 years have seen dramatic marketplace transformations, in India and elsewhere. Think about transformations of the economy; India and many other emerging markets have witnessed hyper-growth while the established markets in the US and Europe have been hit by recession after recession. Technology has introduced disruptive change to the workplace; the way we communicate and collaborate, share information, learn and refresh our knowledge and skills has changed forever. Along with these macro-level transformations, each one of us has also changed, as a consumer and as an employee. We expect 24x7 access to everything, want courteous and knowledgeable service and thanks to increased transparency are only willing to pay a fair price. In this rapidly and continuously transforming environment, job descriptions and careers have gone through transformation over the past 20 years, and will continue to do so. Change will be the new normal for everyone planning a career today. We will need to prepare ourselves for hitherto unknown challenges, job profiles, and careers.

Summer Placements : JBIMS – Class of 2014 -16

We started reporting placements at JBIMS last year with the summer placement report for the batch of 2013-2015 in the InsideIIM format. During final placements, we couldn't report it in the InsideIIM format - we had to go ahead with an unverified report for the final placements for class of 2014. We are again back with a VERIFIED summer placement report of JBIMS for the class of 2016. (Read summer placement reports for the Class of 2016 at other B schools here)

Panic? Never heard of it. I’m an MBA

Panic? Never heard of it. I’m an MBA

Here is an incident that happened to me a few days ago, the type that is replicated on a near daily basis across almost all B-schools in the land. It was around midnight that me and my project group came to know that an assignment and presentation we’d thought wasn’t due for another 2 weeks was in fact due come the morning class in 9 hours’ time. It wasn’t a herculean assignment but no pushover either, and many of us were busy with other things at the time. In spite of that, although there were questions asked about whether we would be able to do it in time, there was no going down on one’s knees to ask for divine intervention (which usually means praying for the professor to fall sick and cancel the class). At the end of the day, there was a calm division of labour, the work was finished and we even managed to get some sleep.

Brand Overextension: How far is too far?

Brand Overextension: How far is too far?

It's Sunday. You are out on your monthly shopping trip to stock up on consumables. In the brief visit, you see Harley Davidson perfumes and baby clothes, Ponds toothpastes, Coca-Cola T-shirts, and Heinz detergents. You wonder if you are seeing things. Don't worry. Your eyesight is fine. What you are witnessing are classic examples of brand extensions.

Surrogate Marketing

Surrogate Marketing

Have you ever seen commercials promoting Bacardi Music CDs but can never seem to find the product anywhere? Does it make you wonder why? Read on to find out. These well-known liquor brands, similar to cigarette or tobacco brands, are banned from promotion campaigns. The brand managers of these products have thus devised a new style of promotion - surrogate marketing/advertising.
