Topping in any class, batch or similar environment is exceptionally hard. We do not need any convincing to believe that. At some point or the other, we have all aspired to be the best. But what does it take to top, that too on a consistent basis? Are there are some people who are innately toppers or is it about grit?
As B-school students, we are all very well acquainted with case competitions. For some, it is a constructive way to spend time. For some others, it is a source of immense learning and rewards. For others, it is a recourse taken out of desperation. Whatever be the reason, we have all tried our hand at it. But what really makes a team win? I cannot claim to know the answer to that, as much as I would love to know. But definitely talking to consistent winners would give us some better understanding. So that is exactly what I set about to do.
The beauty of the IIM experience is that there are hardly any rules. You are free to do what you want, when you want. This is a post-graduation course and they treat you as an adult. However, there are a few things which are completely non-negotiable. These are -

Almost every student in India goes through several stages emotionally and physically both in the professional as well as personal life. As the students come to terms with this increasingly open world, MBA is a choice offered to them, that is both steady and stable. An MBA does not seem to offer the thrill offered by any of the art. After all, what would former (more often than not, in our society) engineers, accountants, etc. be able to decipher about arts?
IIM Calcutta has consistently been among the top 3 Indian b-schools for nearly 6 decades now. Most of us have heard about it one way or the other. But I am sure there are several aspects that will come as new to many. I have listed down some here:
Joining an MBA is only a step towards your dream career. What we may not give as much thought to is what to choose within and after an MBA. While most reports in the media or society see an MBA as an end goal, students know that it is just a start. We have to make 2 major choices. Firstly, we choose which stream of MBA to specialise in. My college does not have any streams to choose from. But most do. These include marketing, HR, operations, finance etc. Let’s first address how to figure this out:
