It’s a late Sunday evening and everyone in the campus just had a terrible weekend after we were asked to attend 12 hours of self-help workshop on personal finance conducted by the pioneers of the industry. I, for one, was looking forward to binge watch a new TV series that got a nine-pointer on IMDB and would have preferred to end the weekend on a high (ahem) with my friends at a local joint nearby. But I was stuck with a case study competition floated exclusively for top ten B-schools by a major consulting firm. Not really an ideal weekend, if you ask me, but here’s something you can take out of it. In IIFT, almost all weekends are on similar lines. There is always some kind of value addition that is happening and it’s really up to you where you want to take this forward. Even if you are hell-bent on spending your weekends secluded, the curriculum and the administration will ensure that you do the things that will only take your career further in the right direction.

PRoelio 2017 - Cut Through The Noise
PRoelio is a unique national-level case study competition organized by Information Systems and Media Relations Team (iSMaRT) which involves participants to solve a PR disaster and come up with unique strategies to salvage the value, reputation and trustworthiness of the client it represents. In the 2017 edition, the competition saw nationwide participation from premier B-Schools like IIM Shillong, IIM Raipur, IIM Indore, NMIMS Mumbai, JBIMS Mumbai, MICA, SCMHRD Pune, DMS IIT Delhi etc. apart from the home campus SIBM Pune. After a grilling elimination round on 13 January 2017 in which around 170 teams tried to solve a decision analysis quiz, eight teams were shortlisted for the finale which was held at the SIBM Pune campus.

Indian Institute of Foreign Trade (IIFT) emerged as the winner of the National Final of CFA Institute Research Challenge in India along with IIM Bangalore and NMIMS Mumbai. The event was held in Mumbai on Saturday, 4th February 2017.

SIBM Bengaluru’s Annual Management and Cultural Fest – Revelation 2017 was conducted in all its splendour from the 20th to 22nd January 2017 at the SIBM Bengaluru Campus. Of the 9 management events of the Fest, the operations event was called ‘Opvorhuts’, which was formulated from the specialisation ‘Operations’ and the term ‘Vorhuts’, which means ‘Vanguard’. This is also in accordance with the theme of Revelation 2017 – ‘Vision of the Vanguards’.

Budget 2017 announced by the Finance Minister Arun Jaitley is very comprehensive given the fact that it impacts both lower and upper strata of the society to a very large extent– reducing the individual tax rate from 10% to 5% for the lower slab, reducing the tax rate from 30% to 25% for MSMEs having a turnover up to Rs.50 Crores; imposing a surcharge of 10% on individual incomes in the range of Rs.50 lacs to Rs.1 Crore are the breakthrough proposals announced. Relaxation in the promoters’ holding limit for carry forwards of losses and the 3 –year tax holiday provided to start-ups will further boost the Prime Minister’s “Start Up India” campaign. For the educational sector, the FM announced online education portal- “Swayam”, which offers virtual education for 350 online courses, which provides more thrust to the government’s Digital India movement.
