The Financial Times released its 22nd edition of the Masters in Management (MiM) ranking on September 7, 2026 — and it's a landmark year for Indian management education. A record 14 Indian B-schools feature on the global list of 100 (up from 11 last year), five of them sit inside the world's top 50, and Indian schools have all but taken over the salary charts, claiming seven of the top eight weighted-salary positions worldwide.

The story of the year: SPJIMR beats both IIM Ahmedabad and IIM Calcutta

A non-IIM has finished ahead of IIM Ahmedabad on a globally respected ranking. SPJIMR's climb to No. 26 (up 9 places from 35 last year) pushes it past IIM Ahmedabad (27) and 13 places clear of IIM Calcutta (39), making it India's second-best MiM programme overall, right behind IIM Bangalore. SPJIMR's careers service score is ranked 2nd in the world — the best of any Indian institute.

New entrants

Three Indian schools debuted this year: NMIMS Mumbai's School of Business Management (73), IMT Ghaziabad (86), and TAPMI Manipal (98). Their entry is most of the reason India's count jumped from 11 to 14 ranked schools.

The one school that slipped

IIM Lucknow fell 15 places, from 57 to 72 — the only Indian school to move backwards this year.

Salary story: India owns the pay charts

Seven of the top eight highest weighted salaries in the entire 100-school table belong to India: IIM Ahmedabad tops the global salary chart at $199,706, ahead of IIM Bangalore ($189,428), XLRI ($183,994), IIM Calcutta ($179,953), SPJIMR ($166,372), IIM Lucknow ($158,215), and MDI Gurgaon ($151,603).

It's a genuine and useful signal of strong domestic buying power and excellent programme ROI — not a claim that Indian grads out-earn European MiM grads in absolute dollar terms.

Remember this above all else: it's a career-outcomes ranking dressed up as an education ranking. Roughly two-thirds of the total score comes from what happens to alumni after they graduate, not from faculty or curriculum quality directly.
