Nikhil R: Best 50 | India's Most Promising Incoming MBA Students 2025 | IIM Shillong

Nikhil R is an IIM Shillong student with a background in Economics, Mathematics, and Statistics and more than two and a half years of consulting experience at Deloitte USI. His career has moved from statistical analysis, including a football-data project for a UK company, to cloud engineering and AI and data work. He also brings a long-standing interest in public speaking and mentoring through Toastmasters.

One achievement he values deeply is becoming the youngest member of his community club, Words Worth Toastmasters, to hold a position of responsibility. After the leadership vacuum created by the pandemic, he helped improve meeting standards and grow membership by 76% in a year. District-level awards and the chance to mentor more than 10 people in their speaking journeys made the work especially meaningful.

At Deloitte USI Consulting, Nikhil has spent 33 months working in AI and Data. He has remediated more than 12,000 vulnerabilities, helped maintain 100% uptime across 10 AWS environments, and delivered annual savings of $37,000 through rightsizing. His automation frameworks resolved more than 2,000 issues, while AWS Glue monitoring removed over 36 hours of manual effort. Spot and Applause Awards recognised his contribution to cloud security, automation, and incident response.

Nikhil's strength lies in his willingness to learn unfamiliar subjects and technologies. Moving into Economics in college and then building AWS expertise in response to client needs taught him to adapt quickly. His technical work and Toastmasters leadership have also developed an ability to explain ideas clearly and work thoughtfully with different people.

He is working on greater confidence in his own abilities and a more proactive approach to leadership opportunities beyond the classroom and workplace. At IIM Shillong, he is seeking roles that help him meet new people, build professional relationships, and contribute more actively to campus communities.

From competitive quizzes and debates to cloud consulting and public-speaking mentorship, Nikhil has pursued work that calls for both analysis and communication. That range gives him a useful foundation for business roles that require technical fluency, judgement, and the ability to bring people along.
