The Ascent: From Defence Aspirations to Corporate Impact

Saumya’s journey is defined by a unique and challenging path. Before her MBA, she spent three years preparing for the defence forces, clearing demanding written examinations like the UPSC CDS and AFCAT multiple times. While she ultimately chose a different career, she counts this "rejection-heavy phase" as her most significant achievement. It was not about the outcome but the process. It taught her resilience, how to find courage in the face of failure, and instilled a deep, lasting interest in geopolitics, economics, and international relations.

This resilience translated directly into her corporate journey. Her summer internship at PhonePe, her first corporate role, placed her in the Merchant Business Unit. She was tasked with identifying high TPV (Total Payment Volume) categories and developing a go-to-market strategy to capture high-potential outlets. Stepping away from home for the first time for her MBA and then diving into an ambiguous project at PhonePe tested her adaptability. She delivered, combining analytical rigor with business intuition, and her well-received recommendations confirmed her ability to navigate uncertainty and create impact.

The Inner Core: Tenacity and Principled Action

Saumya’s core strengths are not just skills but deep-seated traits. She is driven by powerful self-motivation; once a goal is set, she works toward it, uninfluenced by external factors. This is paired with a tenacity that allows her to trust the process, moving forward with a structured approach. She also possesses a high learning quotient, enabling her to adapt quickly and master new subjects or niches without losing momentum.

Her character is perhaps best revealed by her actions as a member of the Research and Scholastic Development Team (RSDT) at SIBM Pune. Her team was responsible for sourcing live projects for both the senior and junior batches. Saumya personally brought in over five companies offering multiple projects. Despite her teammates applying, she chose not to submit her own CV for any of the opportunities she sourced. She knew many batchmates critically needed a CV point, and she was unwilling to take a spot that could go to someone else. More importantly, she wanted to avoid any potential bias, real or perceived, from the HR teams she was in contact with. She prioritized her batchmates' needs and her own ethical conscience over personal gain.

The Employable Edge in an AI-Augmented World

In today’s AI-augmented business world, Saumya’s key skill is her ability to conduct structured, deep research. She views AI as a powerful tool but not a complete solution. She combines AI-generated information with deep dives into diverse sources like Google Scholar, academic journals, and news articles. Her true value lies in her human judgment, the ability to critically evaluate and synthesize these varied inputs into a coherent, insightful strategy. She has repeatedly used this research-oriented approach as a differentiator in case competitions and academic projects.

Saumya Jain brings a rare combination of intellectual curiosity, proven resilience, and a process-driven mind. She is a self-motivated individual who understands how to leverage research for business results and has the character to put the team’s needs first. Managers can count on her to navigate ambiguity, adapt to new challenges, and deliver structured, well-reasoned outcomes.
