Name an instance where you wanted something and went out of your comfort zone to achieve it OR Tell us the biggest risk you have taken so far in your life.
During our final year project, we had decided to work on a healthcare-based project on the topic of cardiac arrhythmia. Our project involved training a machine learning model to detect patients having an arrhythmia. On the day of our first evaluation, the evaluator wasn't happy with the dataset chosen by us as it didn't have enough readings to improve the efficiency of the model. Finding a dataset of healthcare projects is extremely difficult as it might breach patient-doctor confidentiality. To overcome this roadblock, we decided to approach some hospitals in order to get authorized data for our study. After initial hesitance, after completing the required formalities, some of the doctors gave us the data which helped us improve the efficiency significantly. We successfully completed the project and currently have a paper published in IEEE journal on the same. Also, our chapter proposal for an international book on deep and machine learning has been accepted and published.
When was the last time someone relied on you? OR What did you do which was purely for someone else - a truly selfless act.
I, along with my team, was selected for the national finale of Smart India Hackathon 2019-world's biggest open innovation hackathon. We were required to develop a mobile application within ten days and present the same in the final round. Initially, we were all very nervous as this was our first experience participating in such a prestigious competition, but we pulled ourselves together and started working on it. On the day of the hackathon, the officials wanted us to add many new features to our application, requiring us to start working from scratch. My teammates got disheartened, but I Motivated them. We had to finish the whole application within 36 hours, and the technology required was new to most of us. Since I had some prior experience working on the necessary technology, I guided my team and developed an action plan to deliver our solution within time. We were finally able to complete the project within the allocated time and added some new innovative features. The judges were very impressed with the application, which led us to win the Smart India Hackathon. Our team was recognized as the most innovative and hardworking team. The insights I gained from this journey were:1. Where there is a will, there's a way - We all worked towards winning the prestigious event and finallysucceeded.2. If you believe in yourself, you can make anything happen - We believed that we could win from day one.3. Effective teamwork can win championships - We worked well to make decisions, solve problems, and resolve conflicts. We were recommended to develop a website for the project to make it easily accessible via laptops and PCs, but we couldn't implement the suggestion due to lack of time. Our judges later appreciated our effort to make a great mobile application instead of making an incomplete website
Tell us about a time when you disagreed with an opinion/idea/decision. What did you do about it?
During the final year project of my engineering, I had worked on a project regarding the detection and analysis of Cardiac Arrhythmia. As we started doing our research on the topic to implement the project, we found 2 different approaches to execute the project and increase the efficiency compared to the solution that was already present. My opinion was that we should go with an option that had a better chance of giving us successful results since we planned to pitch our solution to some organisations which could commercialise this software. On the contrary, one of my teammates wished to implement the other solution which would allow us more opportunity to experiment but the risk of the efficiency not improving was high. Our team was not able to finalise the method even after multiple discussions. We finally decided to take 2 weeks and try both methods on a small dataset to make the decision based on the results. I chose to work on the method I thought was better and the efficiency increase was drastic. Eventually, I presented the results I got to my teammates and was able to successfully convince them that the first method was a better approach for final implementation. Finally, even they agreed the first method was a better choice for us. We decided to use the research we did in both the methods and have an IEEE paper and book chapter published on the same.
What is the one thing you can claim to have some level of expertise or depth of knowledge in - it could be anything - a subject, a sport, a hobby, a venture, an initiative which has led you to do deep work in that field?
I remember joining my first dance class when I was 3 years old. Ever since then, dance has been my therapy, hobby, and passion. I have performed in multiple events and functions and have won prizes for the same. This passion for dancing pushed me to learn multiple dance forms and attend many workshops. I even joined the Shaimak Davar camp twice to learn hip-hop. During my engineering, I gained an interest in ballroom dancing and ended up joining classes to learn Salsa and Bachata. I even started following dance fitness sessions on Cult fit and it was my favourite stress buster and reliever during the entire COVID lockdown. I even like to teach dance to the children in my colony during my free time and have choreographed multiple performances during my school and college days.
If 10 Million Dollars (approximately INR 75 Crores) is given to you to use it any way you deem fit what would you do with this corpus?
If I had 10 million dollars, I would: 1. Personal utility- I would keep aside Rs.2 million for personal usage. My grandmother always dreamed of having a Europe trip and hence I would take my entire family for 1 month for the same which would cost around Rs. 1 crore. I would also buy a sea-facing house in Mumbai which has been my childhood dream costing around Rs. 10 crores.2. People affected by COVID-19 pandemic- I would keep Rs.3 million for it. This pandemic has severely affected millions of people. Especially during the second wave, multiple people lost their families and livelihood. Hence, I would like to set up facilities and NGOs for the affected children and people.3. Animal welfare - I would use Rs.2 million for stray animal welfare by opening care centres for them at multiple locations.4. Investment in start-ups- I would use the remaining Rs. 3 million by investing in a budding start-up as a venture capitalist.
