Hello readers!
I am here to share my Internship experience in a company which is basically into stock trading. After all the preparations, I was able to obtain an internship here.
Day 1 – not as exciting as it sounds, it was usual introductory sessions, meeting new people and some basics about how it is going to be in the next few days. There were also people from different b-schools with different job roles. It was only a half a day session and everything seemed okay.
Day 2 – this marked the start of the official internship journey. Since the company was basically into stock and forex trading (and we didn’t have any idea about trading), new concepts and techniques were taught to us for the whole day and it was very interesting.
Day 3 – just like day 2, this was also a complete learning session.
Day 4 – apart from learning session, we were introduced to mock FOREX trading perform and asked to trade with virtual money in a real market-like environment.
Day 5-10 – these days were almost the same in terms of happenings as we were asked to concentrate on our virtual trading account. There was also a competition among the interns and the one who made the highest profit was given a cash prize.
Day 11 – we were asked to invest our own real money for trading. All the procedure for opening a new forex trading account happened on this day.
Day 12 – trading using the real account started on this day. We all were very nervous about how it would go (Fewer profits and more losses as we all were conservatives basically :p).
Day 12-35 – there were some happy and some disappointed faces at the end of these days as some made little profits while some incurred heavy losses. But, it was a whole new experience for all of us as trading is something important that everyone needs to learn.
Day 36 till the end – introduction into the Indian STOCK market, some discussions about basics and strategies and trading with virtual money happened during these days. This time, since all of us already had a hand in FOREX trading, everything seemed to be a bit familiar and hence all of us were confident about trading.
ABOUT THE COMPANY MENTOR:
My mentor in the company was a highly experienced trader who had experience of more than 15 years. He also happened to be one of the co-founders of the company. The credits for the successful completion of my summer internship goes to my mentor. Apart from being supportive during the entire course of the summer internship, he also helped us with sharing us his past experience, which was highly valuable. He taught us some of his trading strategies which he currently adopts. This is not a usual scene in any stock trading company as the companies usually treat this trading strategy highly confidential as it is the foundation on which the company survives. For people who moved into the city just for the 2-month internship, he extended his greatest help in finding them comfortable accommodation which not all company mentors do. In this way, he was very different from others.
This marks the end of my internship experience.
Hence, I conclude that I had a very great time during my internship. I hope those who are currently reading this and who are yet to complete their first year MBA, your internship is surely going be worth it!
