Name an instance where you wanted something and went out of your comfort zone to achieve it OR Tell us the biggest risk you have taken so far in your life.
During the stint with my last employer, once we had a very tight deadline to meet for particular order fulfilment. On the D-day, we were short on the customer-required make of a certain component. Being in a pre-production function, I was not directly responsible for the dispatch activity but had personally committed the fulfilment assurance to the customer. My superiors were preparing to communicate and apologize for the delay to the customer, which would have cost the company dearly, but I wanted to avoid that and deliver my commitment. I went out of the way for an in-person inspection on the shop floor and found the required make stock through adjusted resource allocation. This helped us fulfil the order in time and I delivered on my commitment.
When was the last time someone relied on you? OR What did you do which was purely for someone else - a truly selfless act.
During my under-graduation, I often saw my classmates were unaware on certain social stigmas. The primary reason behind this was an easy-to-understand and engaging source of information. I decided to act on this. With the help of a creative website of our college Alumni, I penned anonymous blogs on issues like Alcoholism and other addictive substances so that people can make informed choices before venturing into the same. I also tried to cover topics like Introvertism as it is the most ununderstood phenomenon and many people are wrongly judged in their social circle. The blog received a good response and helped many people hold an informed perspective.
Tell us about a time when you disagreed with an opinion/idea/decision. What did you do about it?
While working for my past employer, we received purchase requisition from an esteemed firm for the first time. They had stringent guidelines regarding their requirement with no scope of negotiation. This made it difficult from the design outlook. As per my calculations and the site requirements, I had a better design recommendation. The customer was not willing to agree to any change in his design guideline. In order to back my recommendation and illustrate his benefit, I prepared the comparative 3D-model analysis. Although it took more time but proved a better option for both the customer and us.
What is the one thing you can claim to have some level of expertise or depth of knowledge in - it could be anything - a subject, a sport, a hobby, a venture, an initiative which has led you to do deep work in that field?
From the moment of my introduction to it, I have been an avid follower of Lean Six Sigma. Having studied its methodologies in-depth, I have an elaborate understanding of its holistic applicability in all domains. In my work-ex before my MBA, I got a practical outlook of LSS which helped me strengthen my concepts. I have spent most of my time at MDI participating in National-level Corporate Case Study competitions. With the subjective and conceptual knowledge of Lean Six Sigma, I had clarity and structure in approach to the problem in the case which easily translated to better solutions and hence helped me perform fairly well in the competitions.
If 10 Million Dollars (approximately INR 75 Crores) is given to you to use it any way you deem fit what would you do with this corpus?
I feel that meeting both personal and social demands is essential for happiness in life. On the personal front, firstly, I'd like to pay off my MBA student loan. Moving ahead I would like to keep aside a sum of INR 5 Crore for my future needs and urgencies. My father dreams of venturing into a Solar-energy based startup post-retirement, which I'd like to fund with INR 40 Crore. With the rest of the corpus, I am willing to open a vocational training school for unemployed youth in our country who are financially incapable of sustenance. As per the studies, even after the right education platforms, Indian youth are not employable. The training school will be a nurturance academy to help get employable without any fee. This will be step towards their sustainable development.
