Tell us about a time when you messed up, and what you learnt from the experience?
During the final year of my Graduation at NIT Surat, we were planning to organise a 24-hour hackathon under ACM, Surat. Our institute was holding a hackathon for the first time and I was a part of the organising committee. Our goal was to attract 230-250 participants. We started social media advertising and college advertising. We were very optimistic about our advertisement approach. But, when the registration closed, we could count only 124 participants (almost half of our goal). After the event, we started introspection to understand where we went wrong. We realised that we could have attracted more participants if the following were taken into consideration:
1.Incentivising Participants w.r.t goodies
2. Advertising hackathon as a fun game rather than a competition by introducing fun trivia and talent showcase
3. Connecting to student chapters of popular colleges directly
4. Conduction Know Your Hackathon sessions to understand and answer concerns of potential participants
Tell us something about yourself that others may be surprised to know about you.
Though I am an academically driven person, I prefer smart work as opposed to hard work. People have the perception that I work for my academics day in and day out but that is not the case. In fact, I am good at prioritising things and this skill helps me achieve my goals
What have been your two biggest successes in life? What did you learn from them?
- Best all-rounder student of the year, 2013: I learnt that given the right priorities and management skills, you can Excel in all the skills you are good at.
- Gold medalist, Computer Engineering, NIT Surat: I learnt that focusing on studies other than the marks gets you to excellence
Professionally, what is your ideal image of yourself five years from now? Where do you see yourself?
Five years from now, I see myself making the best use of data in the path of data democracy. I see myself as an efficient Product Manager or Application Product Owner building better products
What is the one skill or characteristic you possess that you are most proud of, and why?
T shaped personality: Given the plethora of knowledge domains that exist out there, it is very crucial for a manager to be The Jack of ALL and Master of ONE. I possess this quality and have the capability to interact with people of multiple domains
In your opinion, what skills or qualities does a successful manager possess?
- Multi-Tasking
- Humility
- Patience
- Ability to see patterns through data
Tell us about an ethical dilemma that you may have faced, and how you resolved it.
It was time to launch the upgraded version of our Supply Chain Financing cloud-hosted web application. All corresponding Development and Testing was completed. Since the main feature of the upgraded version was Better efficiency, Better performance, all the teams tested primarily on this front. 4 days before the launch, I saw a reduction in performance. I tried running the application the other day but it was still faring poorly. After communicating the same with my colleagues, I realised that they were of the unanimous opinion to let the launch happen without any consideration. Since this would hamper user experience, I wanted to scrutinize with the cloud infrastructure team. The team confirmed that the issue was with internal cloud functioning and it will persist for 2 more weeks. I brought this to notice of my manager and proposed a new timeline for the launch
If you were the CEO of any company of your choosing, which company would you choose and what would your first action be as CEO?
I would choose to work in Swiggy. As a CEO, my first action would be introducing the idea of providing subscription-based home-cooked tiffin services to households. For a working bachelor, it becomes difficult to get simple and healthy home cooked meals. This will be instrumental in increasing the market share and revenue of Swiggy
