IIM Lucknow presents Manfest-Varchasva, the Annual Business, Cultural & Sports Festival. The fest will be held from Nov. 20th-23rd, 2014 at the IIM Lucknow campus. Over the past two decades, Manfest, the Annual Business Conclave provided a platform to bring together academicians, students and practitioners of management while Varchasva, the Annual Sports & Cultural Extravaganza, caters to some of the best talents in the country to come together in a celebration of creativity and spirit to attain supremacy. This year, Manfest and Varchasva will come together to host a four-day Megafest like none ever seen before! The Ultimate Warriors’ League (UWL) is IIFT’s annual sports extravaganza, which was launched with full fervor for its seventh season with the tagline ‘Compete. Conquer. Celebrate.’ on October 31, 2014 by the Sports Committee, and the subsequently selected Organising Committee. On the lines of IPL, this year’s UWL, retained its earlier attractions of having firstly franchise biddings, in which three teams were grabbed by second year students, while the first year students bought one. The teams, erstwhile, were named Southern Stallions, Aryan Juggernauts, Eastern Gladiators, Mumbai Hawks. This was followed by the teams’ individual selection of their brand managers and consultants. November 2, a wintry foggy night could hardly freeze the bubbling excitement in the bloodstreams of players, as team owners, brand managers and consultants sat overnight post their grueling MBA schedule by day for an all-nighter (just for the record, it went from 12:30 am to 8:45 am), full of tension (and tears), stirring up cigarette smoke and controversies in the still air to bid for players to form their respective teams for a variety of sports and games, viz. cricket, volleyball, throw-ball, basketball, futsal, track racing, chess, poker, darts, badminton, tug of war, sports quiz. The brand managers sat with their respective owners to decide on branding strategies, to ensure their team gets the maximum brand recall and attention.

With 72% of the Indian population living in villages and accounting for 50% of FMCG and Durable product sales, go rural is the new slogan for most companies. But a lack of knowledge about rural consumer behavior proves to be a major hindrance. This is where Utsaha comes in, a student run initiative aimed at gaining insights into rural consumer behaviour. Utsaha started off in 2009 when PGP students of IIM Indore saw an opportunity in the Kartik Poornima Mela of Janapav Kutti as a suitable platform to understand rural consumer behavior. Since then Utsaha has gone from an idea to the one of the most awaited events in the B school calendar with active support and projects from government, corporate houses, institutes and SMEs. The USP of Utsaha is ‘Disguised Market Research’, the respondents don’t know they are being subjected to market research and so all they do is enjoy the fun and fervour around and in the process give valuable, unbiased insights into consumer behaviour.
