MBA is not just about cases and analysis, there’s much more to it that can be experienced only staying in the campus. Everything is so different the culture, the environment, the people. Yes, I said people, I mean you get to meet these varieties of characters just at one place. This got me thinking about some of the characters that can be seen in my campus.
“The goal of a CEO is to maximize the total shareholders return”, said Mr. Varun Patil, our instructor for the Global Business Simulation Class. I was extremely excited about this subject. As the management of Mobile Inc, a cellular device brand based out of United States, we were catering to Asia, US and Europe. A pre-read had given us the idea that this subject would require skills from all subjects we had taken in the 1st year for this trimester for that matter. As Mr. Varun briefed us on the simulation, things started getting clearer and clearer. Use of demand analysis given the industry growth and country specific growth, an extrapolation was made keeping a little aggressive stance.
I can remember the day I received admission confirmation from IIM Rohtak. I felt happy as well sad. It was a mixed feeling because I was feeling happy, but I was afraid. I was glad to join this wonderful institute but was afraid that I won’t survive a day without my loved ones. I took a leap of faith and embarked on my journey into the world of B-school. It was a tough decision to join IIM Rohtak.
This question has actually sent me into a reverie of the past 1 year of my life.
Only a few days had past in our one in a lifetime experience of studying in IIM Rohtak and we were asked to prepare for a case which would be taught by the director himself.
The new and finally own campus of IIM Rohtak is situated on National Highway 10 of the country, close to a quiet village place called Sunaria. The campus encompasses 200 acres of land and is an oasis of knowledge in the otherwise sport-frenzy state of Haryana. Moving into our own campus this year, the feeling of excitement and pride was akin to that experienced by someone moving from a rented home into his/her own house. We are the first batch to move into our permanent campus apart from being the only batch which has lived in both the campuses: the temporary and the permanent ones. Most of the basic construction has already been done and the frills are underway now.
Being willing to step out of the comfort zone once in a while; taking risks in life that seems worth taking. The ride might not be as anticipated if you'd just planted your feet and lingered, but it will be a lot more interesting. It was one of those class where you learn a concept, but you do realize a lot more interesting stuff that happens around you with the help of your facilitator and classmates.
There is something peculiar about marketing, you have to be innovative and on your toes all the time. It is very difficult to sell anything without wooing the customer. Being prospective managers, we would need to find out various ways in which we can promote our product and attract new customers. And this preparation begins from our college itself where we try to find different perspectives of the same problem when we work together in groups. But we are still amazed by the experience we get in class when the professor instigates an altogether different thought process that we had not even thought about. This is where we truly are amazed by the learning process that we go through at IIM, Rohtak.
