I started my journey from Jabalpur to Campus in Clouds on 20th June. It is said that journey is more important than the destination but in this case, I was waiting impatiently to reach my destination. The newest among the oldest and oldest among the newest is IIM Shillong.
As the results were declared and I was all set to spend the next two years of my life in the campus of clouds. It was not the first time that I was supposed to leave my family and spending the past seven years of my life in different places and away from them my parents were quite okay with the fact that I was supposed to leave for a good reason. As soon as the results were declared I was given some kind of special treatment from everyone around.
I still can remember the sleepless nights and the hard work that I had done to bell the CAT exam. Yes I did bell the CAT but the game wasn’t over. I still had interviews to crack to make it to the dream college. Finally I got a mail of conversion from IIM Shillong and I was on the top of the world. I couldn’t believe that I had made it to one of the top B-Schools of this country.
My story at IIM Shillong did not start the day I entered the campus but two days prior to it, when I reached the home of clouds a.k.a Meghalaya. Soon as I entered the beauty that is Shillong, I was excited more than ever to reach the campus of IIM Shillong.
Imagine waking up in a setting surrounded by clouds. Imagine taking a walk along the hills with a mild drizzle constantly gushing over your face. Imagine sipping tea with your buddies after a long hard day with a view so peaceful and heart-warming that it would make you forget all your worries. Imagine going for a night-time stroll and encountering an array of fireflies around you. These aren’t scenes from a movie set in the highlands of Switzerland, but are instances from the daily lives of students of IIM Shillong.
Classrooms, for me, have always been the best way to learn. It provides us with a holistic environment where we can gain knowledge. In school, we used to be spoon-fed on how things happened and worked. Teachers would be attentive towards each student whether they understood the topic or not. Whereas the environment of under-graduate classrooms in engineering is very different. They were different in the way that the lecturer was usually only interested in completing the course curriculum rather than bothering about whether everyone had something to take away from the lecture.
We are born with a profound cause that we are yet to achieve. Or, this is what millennials like to fool themselves with - Searching for a cause in the midst of anxiety and randomness.
Just like every MBA aspirant daydreams of getting into an IIM while preparing for CAT, I too wished to somehow get into an IIM. And it seemed like dream come true when I received that ‘Congratulations Mail’ from IIM Shillong. That news rushed adrenaline in me mainly because of two reasons – one being I will be a part of the prestigious IIM Family and other being the ‘Campus in Clouds’.
