IIM Udaipur, a pioneer in itself, was officially launched on 30th July 2011 with one of its many missions to offer a transformational learning experience to one and all associated with it. When IIM Udaipur entered the market (read: B-School Family), it was prone to face competitions from the existing players in the market (read: comparisons with other IIMs). IIMU had two options; either to carry on with the legacy that the existing IIMs have created or to create a unique brand for itself. And, just like what all the big brands would do, IIMU chose the latter and went out on a journey to be one of best b-schools in the world.

The sprawling campus of IIM Udaipur, situated amidst the Aravallis has been my home for the last one year. On the evening of 24th June, 2017, when I entered the IIM Udaipur campus, it was apprehension I felt instead of an expected exhilaration. The campus was still under construction and the sight was disheartening. But, little did I knew that in one year, it would be a place I would never want to leave. A place where I would create many good memories, friends and learn a lot about management.

It was a fine sunny morning during the month of February and we were rushing to the class after a fulfilling breakfast. Pouring over the article last night which was aptly titled “Impacting on Society: The Lost Debate within IIMs”, I was wondering what the author who also happens to be my Professor for the course, Dr. Somnath Ghosh was trying to convey when he said IIMs are only focusing on improving the management practices of corporate India while neglecting the management problems of public systems that play a very critical role in development and nation building. With a curious mind, I punched the attendance on the biometric system and waited for him to arrive.
