Popular movies like 3 Idiots have tried to address this malaise but we still see the bhed chaal (rat race) – majority students opting for science in Class XI no matter what their interest, then the Kota like coaching classes rush to qualify for an engineering college and taking up any engineering discipline even though the person may never use an iota of the discipline’s knowledge in their life, and a similar scramble for doing MBA.
Common Admission Test (CAT) is the first benchmark for the candidates who are aspiring to be a promising manager. Securing a high percentile in CAT exam will act as a gate pass for the aspirants to the top management institutes like - Faculty of Management Studies (FMS), Institute of Management Technology (IMT), Management Development Institute (Gurgaon), International Management Institute (IMI), National Institute of Industrial Engineering (NITIE), S.P Jain Institute of Management and Research (SPJIMR), Jamanlal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies (JBIMS) etc. CAT is Regarded as one of the toughest entrance examination in the country. Around 2 lakhs candidate appear for the exam each year.
The Economic Times Young Leaders B-School Edition is a platform for recognising and rewarding India’s most promising final year management students. (Register here. Last date is September 16th, 2016). This initiative is meant to encourage, identify and nurture young individuals, many of who will be stepping into the corridors of India Inc. for the very first time. The programme administers a combination of assessment tools, online as well as on-ground, and culminates in face-to-face interviews with leaders from the corporate world. A List of the top B-School Young Leaders is attained at the end of assessments across four phases.
IIM Lucknow has announced the admission criteria for the PGP batch of 2017-19 and the big news is that weight given to CAT has dropped further.
Mohit Sharma is a student of IIFT-D of 2016-18 batch. He is an electronics and Communication Engineer from Nagpur University and also has experience as a Software Engineer in Accenture and Persistent Systems Limited. He scored 69.34 marks out of 100 in IIFT exam, 2015 and secured 99.98%ile. Through this interview, he tells us about the strategies he used to ace the exam and the subsequent rounds.
