The fourth edition of Colloquium- the annual series of guest lectures by industry leaders and corporate honchos, kicked off on a high note at IIM Ranchi. Mr. Ashu Malhotra, HR Head of e-commerce giant Jabong.com visited the campus as part of the event. He invoked the students to aim big in life and to be good human beings by connecting with people around us (people orientation), respecting others in the company and learning constantly from the immense knowledge repository that lies around us.

Great Lakes Institute becomes youngest in India to receive prestigious AMBA International Accreditation
The Great Lakes Institute of management, Chennai has become the youngest and the 7th B school in India to receive the AMBA (Association of MBAs), UK accreditation. The institute has received accreditation for its flagship one year fast track PGPM program and its two year executive PGXPM program. With the prestigious achievement, the institute now has joined the league of some of the world’s renowned institutes such as INSEAD France, London Business School, HEC Paris, IIM Calcutta, who have received the accreditation in the past. Apart from Great Lakes, only 6 other institutes in India including IIM-C, IIM-L, MDI Gurgaon, SPJIMR have so far been accredited by AMBA.

Apart from procedural changes like exclusively online purchase of vouchers, and more important ones like the reduction in the number of time slots, there are also several changes in the CAT 2014 paper pattern that have already been spelled out. Some of these include no sectional time limits, increase in the duration of the exam, and increase in the number of questions.

In India, MBA is just a degree which teaches you how to fool others, how to play with others emotions by not working in groups, throwing around jazzy management jargons which can very well be explained in plain English and above all, how to network your way up the B School ladder through desperate class participation to influential seniors and playing politics to get into the so called popular clubs. There is no knowledge or learning in this as the driver to perform is motivated by only two things: placements and grades.
