Vinod Gupta School of Management, IIT Kharagpur has successfully completed its summer placements for its 21st batch of flagship MBA program students. Despite recessionary fears and unfavorable economic situation, it boasts of a successful summer placement process.
So here’s a disclaimer. There is no real love story in this piece unless you consider the love of football and of management techniques (snort). This was just to make the title appear more snazzy and to attract a wider audience (something marketers would know all about). However, this piece does have a consultant and he does take charge of a struggling football club and maybe he does win the title but you’ll only know that if you read on. So let’s begin with our “A long time ago in a galaxy far far away...” bit.
At SPJIMR, it is believed that there is no better way of learning than hands on experience in the field . And this is made possible with the unique empowering program called the - Assessment & Development of Managerial & Administrative Potential(ADMAP)Program- wherein each student is formally enrolled in a committee (in his/her first year) that functions just as a department in any organisation. Each committee is headed by a faculty member who is responsible for facilitating committee activities and providing overall support and guidance. This program enables students to get a hang of the entire system and be involved in the decision making and running of the institute.

The role of quality teaching and interacting with the best B-School Professors in the country plays a major role in an individual’s MBA journey. MBA aspirants generally tend to undermine and overlook this aspect. Thus, the Media and Corporate Communications Committee of IIM Indore UAE Campus launched the ‘Guru Gyaan’ series to spread awareness about the importance of focusing on the ‘Gyaan’ aspect in the MBA journey. This initiative will feature interviews with professors who have set very high course delivery and teaching standards in the GCC region.
All MBA students are taught Organizational behavior and group dynamics in class through text books but the actual learning comes through group assignments and well……whatsapp. There would be similar roles being played by different individuals in each group. There would be those who work, those who present, those who make presentations, those who beautify the presentations and finally those who do absolutely nothing at all. Similarly there would be those who would reply to every post in a whatsapp group, those who would master in smileys, those who would post forwarded jokes and images, those who would make guest appearances and finally those who would have the group on mute at all times. You find your role and learn to work in these real and virtual groups in your two years.
Joyfest involves the aspects of giving to the less fortunate and sharing a part of our lives with them. It is a ‘festival of philanthropy’ to show our concern for and to the less privileged lot. This year it was held from the 17th to the 20th of October 2013 as a part of the celebrations of the Joy of Giving Week.
