An MBA after marriage! A decision to be away from your spouse and family for 2 years! Challenges were over weighing but so was the conviction. Destiny had its plans in sync with mine. A dream blended with aspiration, ambition and action landed me to the place I always wanted to be- the IIM. And Shillong added a silver lining to it.
Indian Institute of Management Shillong has turned its attention towards nurturing the young students in Shillong in a right direction. ECoBiZ club of IIM Shillong along with Environmentalist Foundation of India (EFI) has conducted a ‘Pioneer Leadership Workshop’ for the local students of Shillong. The one day workshop, supported by Lions Club of Shillong was mainly focused on bringing out leaders in Shillong in the field of environment. The workshop was inaugurated by Dr. Amitabha De, Director of IIM Shillong, Mr. Arun Das, Lions Club president and Mr. Arun Krishnamurthy, EFI president. Dr. De highlighted the importance of this initiative and stressed upon how development should go hand in hand with conservation. He told the students that conservation should begin from each individual.
“One day, in retrospect, the years of struggle will strike you as the most beautiful”, said Sigmund Freud once. I'm not the sort to wallow in nostalgia about the good old days and so, understandably, could never get the essence of this quote. Until some recent happenings like the Alumni meet, news of my batch mates getting hitched and their images flooding my social media timelines and current batch students pinging for advice regarding the “placement season” took me back to my ‘year of struggle’ at Great Lakes. What a year it was!
I am not sure if a lot of people will be able to appreciate this. There is nothing exceptional that happened in this case. But, I am sure there are people like me who could be warned about a potential danger. Also, I feel much more comfortable talking about a paper pencil exam.
The one topic that finds place in our everyday conversations almost inadvertently is nothing else but ‘sleep’. Sleeping not only has the mystical ability to make one feel better, even in the direst of circumstances, but it goes way beyond just boosting one’s mood or banishing under-eye circles. Adequate sleep plays a major role in helping one maintain a healthy lifestyle, and indirectly benefits one’s heart, weight, mind etc.

The American Express Campus Centurion Challenge 2013 is a simulation game organized by American Express with the aim of offering the students a pedagogical and professional experience in some aspects of the credit card industry and the opportunity to explore analytics from a practical perspective. This project is a part of American Express's campus communication strategy and aims to enhance students' analytical and decision making skills and enrich their knowledge of the credit card economics in general.
There are certain things that business schools incorporate in their campus lives and programs as part of some sort of unwritten rule - packed class schedules, deadlines that teach one to race against time, competitions, surprises - not restricted to quizzes alone, long days and longer nights - IIM Shillong has all of this of course, but it has so much more.
