‘Guru Gyaan’ – IIM Indore UAE initiative featuring Prof. Srinivas Gunta

‘Guru Gyaan’ – IIM Indore UAE initiative featuring Prof. Srinivas Gunta

The role of quality teaching and interacting with the best B-School Professors in the country plays a major role in an individual’s MBA journey. MBA aspirants generally tend to undermine and overlook this aspect. Thus, the Media and Corporate Communications Committee of IIM Indore UAE Campus launched the ‘Guru Gyaan’ series to spread awareness about the importance of focusing on the ‘Gyaan’ aspect in the MBA journey. This initiative will feature interviews with professors who have set very high course delivery and teaching standards in the GCC region.

Dos and Donts for MBA-turned-writers

Dos and Donts for MBA-turned-writers

Many of us want to be writers… internationally published… bestselling authors. Some of us write well or believe we do so. Some of us have our manuscripts ready or strongly feel so. Some of us do not know how to proceed, approach publishers, impress editors, etc. But many of us get hold of the wrong end of the stick. Blame it on or acknowledge Chetan Bhagat. The Five Point Someone author kick-started a mini-revolution with his extremely popular novels, thereby inspiring a generation of engineers/MBA me-toos to go ahead and write their own novels.

10 Things MBA Students Want From Modi

10 Things MBA Students Want From Modi

Aspirations are flying high in this nation of 1 billion. The country has voted for change and Mr. Narendra Modi has come to power with an emphatic win. Like everyone else even the b-schoolers would love to believe that “Ache din aane wale hain”. There are a few things fundamentally wrong with Indian education system and this is my list of demands from Mr. Modi on behalf of the b-school students’ fraternity. (Also in the end is a petition to bring a small change)

Trotting the Temporary Staff Model- Bringing a Transformation in the HR Industry

Trotting the Temporary Staff Model- Bringing a Transformation in the HR Industry

HR is no longer limited to the staff function. In recent times HR has seen some unprecedented changes in its modus operandi. If we exhume its history we can find its roots deep down in industrial and labour relations. Grown at a snail’s pace during the second half of twentieth century, the span of control of HR was limited to support function and to a staff function in more formal sectors. With the onset of LPG (liberalization, privatization and globalization), organizations started recognizing the increasing need of HR to manage its young and diverse workforce. Contemporary HR is considered to be a strategic business partner. It has got the prerogative to voice its concern in board room meetings. Transformation in HR continues, and in yet another leap, it has given rise to an altogether new set of industry, ‘HR Consulting & Solution Industry’.

The Six IIM Alumni Report 2014 - Part Three - Top Companies in Banking and Consulting

The Six IIM Alumni Report 2014 - Part Three - Top Companies in Banking and Consulting

It's now time to have a look at the two glamour domains of the last decade. Banking and Finance, and Consulting. They have held a mysterious sway over the minds of MBA grads. We do believe things are changing though - in our recruitment survey last year, most MBA respondents chose sales and marketing as their most preferred domain. Surely, the banking boom is a thing of the past, and things will probably never be the same again. The number of available global front-end roles at top investment banks is a fraction of what it was prior to 2008. People are slowly realizing it. Slowly is the operative word. Many students anyway got unwittingly sucked into the vortex of finance, and took up middle-office ppt-making roles at these investment banks. On the other hand, consulting companies, which offer a slightly lower salary (compared to front-end finance roles) and better work (ppt-making and some additional perks - speaking to top management), have actually grown in popularity over the last few years. Again, consulting is a tertiary service like the advisory services provided by investment banks, and perhaps, the best and brightest of Indian B-schools can do better than spouting management jargon with practised ease.
