‘Sheikh Aghil’, I was nicknamed by my batchmates. *Flashback to where it all began* As I anxiously awaited the outcome of my interview, I was called in by the Placement Committee and the interviewer; who with a very straight face said – “I hope you have your passport ready”, I stood there confused for a moment and then got a pat on my back and that’s when the interviewer said with a smile- “you bagged the international role”. For me that moment felt like an eternity, the dream to work in an FMCG company was now a reality.
E-commerce is a rapidly growing business in India. With the advent of homegrown ‘unicorn’ firms like Flipkart and global giants like Amazon competing in India for market share, exciting times exist for anyone is associated with e-commerce industry these days. Naturally, it was quite exciting and joyous moment when I was selected for a summer internship in the e-commerce division of Shoppers Stop.
Consider a situation, what do you expect when you are about to join India’s third largest e-commerce website which is about to be sold off. Welcome to the world of Snapdeal, India’s’ largest online marketplace.
An on-field sales experience is the thing every marketing guy craves for as it gives an immense understanding of the ground realities. And my internship at Food Crafterz provided me with the much-coveted sales experience. Food Crafterz is a startup which provides Branding service, Sales and Distribution service and Digital Marketing service to manufacturers of food products in FMCG category. I worked in the Sales and Distribution role. Being a foodie myself, I got involved in the product launch of two healthy snacks - Flavoured Foxnuts also called as Makhanas and Toasted Millet Muesli. Both of them had to be positioned as a premium product targeted towards the elite customers of Mumbai.

My “summer” internship at Panasonic India was ironically a wintry experience within an air-conditioned chamber that of a size of a telephone booth! Hailing from a hilly region of Uttarakhand, it gave me a homely feeling in some peculiar manner. For me, Panasonic was an unprecedented bliss. Perhaps the best part of my junior year in MBA.
