One of the things that a life during MBA has taught me is that going forward a large part of my time awake will be spent in going through emails. It was one such ordinary Monday morning that I woke up to a barrage of emails from professors and an endless number of committees. But one mail caught my attention. ‘P&G has sent you an Amazon Gift card’ the subject line read and my happiness knew no bounds, it was my first time winning a prize during my 4 months stay here at SPJIMR pursuing PGDM.

In my earlier posts, I wrote in detail about Nano ( 'Nano, A good product marketed badly?' and Tiago ( Tiago, not so Fantastico? ). But it is also interesting to look at the Tata Motors brand as a whole. After all, it is a difficult brand to manage, given its legacy of being a truck and commercial vehicle manufacturer, a fact that differentiates it from all the other automobile brands in the Indian market who don't have to carry that baggage. To take an example, think hard about whether you would buy cars from Ashok Leyland in India, or Man in Germany, or Iveco in Italy to make it explicit with an analogy. And for the purposes of this discussion, all of the analysis is as of April 2013 and does not take into account any changes, progress or decline of the brand in the last three and a half years. In other words, this is a snapshot of March-April 2013.

With the government demonetizing 500 and 1000 rupee notes, it has become imperative for everyone to spread this awareness in the remotest area of the country so that all the villagers can get a full value of their hard earned money. And to further this initiative, the Finance club and Samarpan – the social responsibility club of IIM Ranchi planned to visit a remote village in Dimra tehsil of Ranchi along with a faculty member, Prof. Gaurav Marathe and a localite Mr. Mangesh Jha.
A team of four PGPX students – Akarsh Kosuri, Anupam Mohanty, Sumit Pant and Syed Omar Alam – during their stint at Purdue University, USA, won a cash prize of US$ 600 at the Purdue v. IU Stamina Case Competition organized by the Business Information and Analytics Center at the Krannert School of Management. Syed Omar Alam describes the team's journey and the challenges they faced.
