Every person aspiring to pursue an MBA has his/her own reasons to make a jump into the management side of the business world. For one, it could be the first career decision made completely out of own choice, the other wanting to quit their software/core job to pursue their passion and it could also be to build a strong work ethic and affable personality that MBA graduates are known to possess.
B Schools can be intimidating at the first glance. In the early days, all one gets to hear is that the first few months are going to be really hectic and time for one’s personal interests and hobbies is a distant dream. You wake up early, attend lectures, go for sessions and before you know, the day is already over. It is amongst this fervent atmosphere that I heard about an event in MDI called MPL, which out of the blue asked us to participate in cricket and have fun. I joined it with full enthusiasm and what followed was more than just fun. It was actually the integration of oneself with the institution in true sense.
I joined MDI Gurgaon on June 14, 2018. It was a new place, with a different vibe. I was feeling proud of myself for joining such a respected institution, thinking that my life will be smooth sailing from now on… I couldn’t have been more wrong! Starting 15th we had the Induction Week, which I thought would be very easy going in the beginning, but soon realised that it was quite the opposite. It included many different corporate sessions, late night sessions with seniors, introductory sessions with faculty, etc. Coming from a relaxed IT job I felt as if there was no time to breathe. Three-hour sleep became a normal habit, and I learnt to prioritise work over food.

Management Development Institute –MDI Gurgaon the name itself speaks volumes. The lush green campus, the brilliant faculty and the hectic lifestyle all make a place in your heart slowly in small bits and pieces. And this is the place where you get to know some beautiful souls and make friends that you know even right now will stay with you for a lifetime. One such experience of bonding and working together has been “KOK-Klash of Kings” the intersection wars that are going on at this very moment on campus. And as l volunteered to be in the organizing team and the Point of Contact for the creativity team, the whole of this event has been a roller coaster ride for me. There wasn’t just one new unique experience that I had, but the whole journey so far has been new and unique and exhilarating. From working on T-shirt designing for the whole batch to creating and developing the Facebook page, shooting videos and clicking pictures like a professional photographer, working till 5 in the morning nonstop to rushing for the 8 A.M class, surviving on coffee and still failing to keep eyes open during lectures to running in the marathon- the Mandevian Miles (my first marathon), it was an out of the world experience. There are so many moments that I know I would cherish for a lifetime that I find myself wishing for it to not end this soon.
The most memorable experience I had in MDI was the elections for choosing class representatives. I was one of the four persons who contested the elections. Also, I was the last person to join the race. This was because I was not sure as to whether I will be able to manage the responsibilities of the class representative and my academics together. However, I was motivated by my senior who had held the same position in the previous year. She mentioned that even though there were certain challenges but at the same time the tasks involved makes a person ready for a management position because it involves usage of managerial communication and soft skills. It is a position which requires an application and acquiring of various skills such as time management, attentiveness, availability and accessibility. Her guidance cleared all my doubts and affirmed my stance of contesting. Also, I realised that it was an opportunity to be a part of the most integrated network of our college. That is, the network of students formed by the Student Committee, the Placement Cell and rest of the batch. The job also requires facilitation of communication between the students, the Administrative Office and professors.
