The best thing about MDI is the campus experience it offers. It would have been a completely different experience had we not been staying in the hostel. The MDI culture always keeps us on our toes. There are a lot of activities that are going on every time on the campus. Plus, there is a good amount of focus on sports. The seniors offer help whenever we approach them. The environment here is very conducive for learning. There is a lot of peer learning as there is no reservation at MDI. I feel motivated in the company of intelligent people who have come from different backgrounds. The faculty here is top notch.

This night/ early morning was one such example and having faced a couple of grueling rounds of interviews, I was finally selected by Bajaj Auto, India’s largest automotive company. Initial thoughts: Brand – Check. Sales and Marketing – Check. Stipend – Check. So surely it was a great catch and I personally heaved a huge sigh of relief that I was finally getting a chance to intern in a company which had made heart touching ads of Bajaj V.

Time Value Of My Campus - MDI

The first lesson I got from my B-school life experience was the value of time. Despite getting ready 10 minutes prior to the lecture, I got late to the very first class by 1 minute due to some confusion regarding the room number. I was asked to remain outside and it was the moment of realisation for me. There are also other instances which made me realise the importance of time. We are being subjected to a truckload of stress in the form of a barrage of case studies, attendance rules, presentations, quizzes and hectic and packed schedules. All this rigour is helping us in enhancing our time management skills. In our marketing class, our professor has made a rule that whoever dozes off for 30 seconds or more has to dance infront of the whole class. After a couple of such performances from my class mates, I realised the value of a second. Till now, I have learnt that it is best to take everything in the B-school life with an open mind, a willingness to learn and a smile as it is like an examination which nobody can prepare for.

King Of Kings - MDI

MBA is often called the peoples degree. Being a team player is one of the most important aspects that management teaches us. And in an MBA more than being a team player it is about making friends who will stand by you through all the sleepless nights and internships disappointments. During my first month at MDI, this bonding and team spirit is what is my most memorable memory. Impromptu assignments, last minute placement activities and sessions and company applications was basically how each day of my MBA was treating me. Fatigue was something that could not be afforded and sleep became a luxury. Amidst all this hustle bustle and changes came the much awaited section sports war -the KOK- as we called it. Expanded as the King of Kings, the KOK was one event after the stressful induction programme of MDI which served as a path of immense team bonding and display of love for our class. The KOK is a five day long sports event where the six sections of the first year compete with each other in sports ranging from chess to football. All the students in a section team up in order to win that one title of the King of Kings to maintain their dominance as the best section throughout the two years. That feeling to prove the worth our section and in some way establish supremacy united the section in a way which a whole month of classes and assignments could not. The excitement for the event was so much that a week before it teams were designated within our sections for designing section logo, deciding section name and printing of t-shirts. The tension and anxiety, that the assignments were offering us from a month and which did not allow us to take out time even for small activities, suddenly was channelized as a motivation to complete things on time and make time to cheer our section or participate in matches. The most beautiful and worth remembering moment was when we had 5 assignments and task lined up but still to maintain the enthusiasm and support of our players we went with our laptops in hand for cheering. Injuries, stress, losses, victories, happiness, excitement, adrenaline rush all these feelings and emotions marked our five days of journey of KOK and the aura was such that no matter what the emotion was one thing which always bought a smile and strength was that sense of togetherness that we are there for each other. This was the most memorable incidence of my b-school life.

A Transformational Journey To MDI

By the time I joined MDI, I had heard enough stories and experiences to know that my simple life was about to go for a spin. I confidently expected that this b-school journey will be a transformational one, a happy one, a very hectic one, disappointing one, all of this at the same time. I was sure that over the two years I will develop myself professionally, backed by better skills and knowledge. And I do see that happening eventually, adding something to myself every day. I began my journey as an amateur fresher going on the way to be a manager. Each day starts with a task and ends with a submission, only to prepare for the next one. If I were to say that it is only about projects, I would be lying. In the middle of these projects, there are creative activities, sports, food, hostel drama, dog-love and lots of serious fun involved. It is true that some days get frustrating, sometimes overly exhausting, but I am here for these very experiences that challenge me. The best thing about MDI is that it doesn’t teach one to be a professional but imprints that into our vey soul for the rest of our lives.

Mandevians And MDI

MDI is one of India’s most premium college nestled in the heart of the country – India. I joined the institute’s PGPM programme batch of 2018-2020. Re-joining college after 2 years of work experience, made me apprehensive about me finding my place here. Will I be a misfit? Will I be able to thrive in the academic environment again? With these apprehensions, I joined the college. The first few days of the induction were intense. We were given tasks and tight deadlines. Though tiring, we grew closer together as a batch and learnt a lot. Moreover, our seniors arranged for addresses by many industry leaders and we got the opportunity to interact with them and learn about the practical aspects of the business. The person who inspired me the most was Amit Boni, the current vice president of Smartron and the ex- Managing director of Motorola. An Alum of our college, he told us about his journey after graduating from MDI. The part that most struck a chord with me was the turnaround he was able to achieve for Motorola and how his idea for online sales of mobiles revived the company. I see a similar opportunity in Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail. Though the online channel of the arm ABOF, failed to take-off as expected, I still believe that the online world has a big potential and investing in it will give huge dividends. I believe, rather than establishing a separate brand of ABOF, the online channel should work as a complement to ABG’s current fashion offerings of Pantaloons, Allen Solly and Van Heusen, under the Pantaloons brand which should be promoted and leveraged to create an online store. The previous firm I worked with has worked with Pantaloons and my colleagues told us about the distribution and SCM strength of Pantaloons, which will complement well with the online presence.
