Management Development Institute, located at the heart of Gurgaon, truly goes by the name of developing the management skills in its students. Earlier I had just heard the name MDI and was fascinated to come here and see what actually MDI is. After finally joining MDI, since the first day, I have been enticed by the way we have been exposed to the corporate world, the teaching culture and much more.
I was born and brought up in Kerala, except for a few months in UAE. I was really excited about the new experience that I would have in North India. The first day on campus, I understood that Hindi was the only language that all students prefer to speak.
With the advent of the morning light, comes the quiet and insistent chirping of the birds and we open our eyes to the peaceful and lush surroundings that make up MDI Gurgaon. This institute is a haven of fresh air in the scorching heat of NCR region and the red buildings just add to the serenity of this place. The campus is always chirping with the sounds of students playing different sports, panic-stricken cries of students who have to meet unthinkable deadlines and mentoring sessions.
The idea of being in a b-school always enthralled me. The dream was fulfilled when I got an offer from one the top b-schools, MDI, Gurgaon. The experience so far has been far from amazing. The experience of sharing a hostel with 360 other people, standing in the queue to get a chance to bathe and to eat our food has been something that I have experienced for the first time. The whole batch when we arrived had lot of questions and curiosity around, but our senior batch addressed each and every query with utmost patience and enthusiasm. Now, more than a month since all of us arrived, we have become one big family.
Saw a dream to be a part of one of the top b-school in India, on 14th June 2017 joined MDI campus to actually start living my dream. I was very excited but was extremely nervous to undergo the hustle-bustle of an MBA curriculum. Soon after joining, I got to know that I have a roommate who is 4 years elder to me, I didn’t feel delightful listening to this. After meeting him and spending just a couple of weeks together, I have learned so much from him that now, I am glad I got an elder roommate. From the terror of the induction period to now the dread of completing various deadlines. All this journey of 1 month long has been the most tiring days but filled with the infusion of fun, it has been the experience to be enriched for life. Coming to the seniors, the entire batch was quietly scared of them at first, but once induction got over we realised these are the best possible people on campus, know cares about you and your future like a family. From interacting with them to learning insights from their experiences, I developed a great liking for this culture at MDI.
What struck me as the most unique part of MDI was how it was able to incorporate overall development of its students into every part of its being. It has a curriculum that stresses the importance of adopting a mix of both work and pleasure. This is done via various non-academic activities initiated by clubs like Sankriti, the cultural club, SportsCom for sports enthusiasts etc. that happen all the year around. Life at MDI is all about the balance between work and fun, as life should be. And on the rare occasion that the former threatens to skew the balance in its favour, one manages to find solace in the beauty and warmth of the lush green campus, as well as the friendly bantering of equally troubled people who huddle up at Sharma’s till 4 a.m.! It would be quite apt to say that life at MDI starts after 10 at night!
Indian Institute of Management Kashipur, a name which can be trusted with a brand which everyone wants to enjoy, is a management institute which was established in 2011. It was one of the IIMs started along with six other new IIM. The institute is set up with the objective of providing quality management education while sensitising students towards the needs of the society.
In today’s connected world, businesses across the globe in every sector depend on effectively managing their technology. Information is a key asset of modern businesses which makes Information Management a rapidly emerging field. In my previous company, I was part of Design and Analysis team where I got acquainted with the Information Management. I got intrigued by the art of defining, storing, managing and distributing information to relevant stakeholders within a business. I was interested in learning new ways to exploit the information in order to deliver better services to customers, within inevitable time and budget constraints.
