Taking my first step towards venturing into the business world, I was going through a mixed bag of emotions – joy, pride, apprehension. However, the most prominent one was ‘hope’. Hope that I will make the best out of the two years stint in my B-school. Having a word with my seniors, I had a reasonable idea how a B-school functions and what is the course structure. Nevertheless, a question still loomed over me, “How am I going to fit in?”
As I woke up to the guitar riff of RHCP’s melodious “snow”, it was time for my ice-breaking session at SIBM Pune. Entering into the classroom, I could see the enthusiasm on the unfamiliar faces of my fellow batch mates. All of them warmly greeted and welcomed each other to this somewhat tumultuous journey of MBA life. Soon after the coordinator made us aware of the few basic rules and asked to name one special thing that stood out among each other. We were then quickly put into groups and were given the task of performing an advertisement for a new product of our own choice. The passion with which everyone participated in preparation and performance was infectious. I was awed with the zeal and the talent that my batch mates possessed.
I can vividly remember the adrenaline rush I was going through at the moment of my performance, fortuitously my team came on top and we were announced as the winners. However, the significance of the social skills and teamwork was absolutely clear. The whole session of ice breaking was a very smooth transition for me who came from the concrete jungle to the lap of Mother Nature and was a perfect bridge for all of us.
On the very first day without even realizing, I (or the environment of this college) addressed my concern of fitting in. This lush green campus on the hilltop of lavale among clouds is going to be my home for next couple of years. Again, I am hopeful that I will have not just great but an amazing time ahead. Moreover, my friends “Hope is a good thing, maybe the best of all things, and good thing never dies”. Till next time.
