Challenges are inevitable, no matter who you are, where you are, and what you do. Big or small, we all have faced things in life we didn’t like, and had to overcome them because of course – Life Goes On. Challenges can be either personal or professional. I would like to highlight one of the challenges I faced which was kind of a mixture of personal and professional.
Being an engineer, I was expected to at least sit for placements. But at the point when we had to submit our names for the placement, I took aback. I realized I didn’t want a job related to Engineering, or sales. I was confused and I wanted to change the field. I talked to my parents and we all agreed, and I didn’t sit for placements. It was one huge decision because I invested 4 years and a lot of money on my degree, and didn’t even sit for placements. Every other person I met asked me why I did not sit, and it got really stressful for me. And others (aunty uncles) were like “MBA? But if you wanted to do an MBA why did you do engineering? Why did you take science and not commerce”. (Yes I should’ve had it all planned while I was still 15 years old) Answering people about my professional decisions became challenge.
How did I overcome it?
I think I overcame it pretty well. I asked myself “why did I do engineering?”. Answer was simple, I got 10 CGPA in 10th, I opted for science, and as a science student this was the best thing I could do! Why do I want to do MBA? Simple, I found myself inclined to Human Resources while I was handling different fests in my college. Why not a job? Because if I am clear I want to go towards management, why waste 2 more years just for the sake of having work experience?
So now I had all the answers, and when people threw these questions on me, I answered boldly. I realized nobody can hurt you without your permission. I realized that you should stand by the decisions you’ve made, and not be afraid of what people might think or say.
Be Bold, and the key is to BELIEVE in yourself!
