Onism – n. The awareness of how little of the world you’ll experience

I resonate with John Koenig, who says that most of us were once lost, just like the rest of us. Then, we slowly started charting our own paths, plotting the contours of our lives. Just like explorers of yore, we had to contend ourselves with the blank spaces on our maps and the experiences we never had. I feel it is paramount to be cognizant of all the billion doors we had to close to take a single step and all the alternate histories that we have narrowly avoided. SIBM Pune is that one place for me which makes me realize that it’s our choices that define us, not our abilities.
With a vibrant culture, the scenic hill-top campus is always buzzing with excitement. This place doesn’t differentiate which city/state/country you come from or which walk of life you come. SIBM-P provides everyone with a clean slate so that each and every one of us can plot or re-plot the contours of our lives. The course structure is such that we are always at our wits end to come up with ideas and innovations. The Lavale Hill-top Symbiosis campus houses 6 different institutes – Institute of Business Management, Institute of Media Communication, Institute of Telecom Management, School of Sports Sciences, School of Banking and Finance and school of Photography. The amount of diversity that the hill-top presents is unparalleled. Because the students of all institutes interact with each other, the exchange of ideas and perspectives lead to students developing a very broad horizon.
Having mentioned all of the above, which are in itself incredible qualities for a B-School, what according to me is the most unique feature of my campus is that it provides a very close simulation of the real life! With the culture being student driven, the students play an indispensable part for all events conducted on campus, from the admissions to the placements. How a student conducts her/his time on campus is totally at their discretion. The students have to be cognizant of the choices they make and have to own up to them. In terms of councils, the onus lies on the student to choose the right council for herself/ himself and try their best to make the cut. If they get through, they have to live up to the responsibilities that are bestowed upon them. On the other hand, if the candidate fails to get through, she/he has to deal with it themselves. A very important part of the campus culture is competitions. Students from SIBM Pune have a rich history of winning B-School competitions. This culture has been built over time and this is very much visible on campus as one will find groups in all hangout spots or street corners debating strategies for companies to boost their businesses.
SIBM Pune has endless opportunities to offer and limitless spaces to explore. The onus is again on the students to leverage these opportunities and to leave a legacy. Inspired by Animal Farm, I would like to sum up stating that all qualities of SIBM Pune make it equally unique, but some of them are more equal.
Which ABG Company would you like to work for and why?
I would like to work for Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail Limited(ABFRL). The rationale being, this is a very interesting space to work in, in ABG as ABFRL was recently formed in 2015 post the consolidation of Madura Fashions and Pantaloons. From a marketing point of view, with India slowly moving towards a middle-income country and with the Indian middle class constantly expanding, Fashion retail provides a great opportunity to expand markets and reach out to new segments. Having lived in multiple states and having studied in a multi-disciplinary university, I believe I could best employ my skill-set at ABFRL.
